Need advice: PCOS, androgenetic alopecia, and terrified of Androcur side effects
Good evening, I’d really appreciate some advice and hearing about other people’s experiences.
I’m 30 years old, and I took the Yaz BC for almost a year without any problems. It had been prescribed by my endocrinologist. After about a year, during a gynecological check-up, my gynecologist switched me first to Slinda and then to Drovelis, and that’s when my nightmare started.
I experienced constant spotting, low mood, and, most importantly, severe hair loss. I’ve always struggled with hair shedding, but it was usually telogen effluvium, so it would eventually improve. This time it’s completely different. My scalp is now clearly visible, and a dermatologist diagnosed me with androgenetic alopecia. He told me there wasn’t much that could be done except starting minoxidil in about ten years.
I don’t want to wait ten years or just do nothing, so I discussed it with both my dermatologist and my gynecologist. They prescribed Zoely together with Androcur for 10 days each month.
I’ve read about the possible side effects, and honestly, they scare me. Has anyone had a positive experience with this treatment?
I can barely look at myself in the mirror anymore, and I’m even avoiding going to the beach with my friends because I feel like I’m bald. I’m feeling completely desperate.
P.S. I have PCOS, hyperinsulinemia, and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, but all of these conditions are well controlled with diet, exercise, metformin, and Euthyrox.
