Non-club disco (C)DJ gigs around town?
Recently, a few of my friends encouraged me to start DJing as I have a pretty extensive catalogue of deep 70s disco cuts from around the world. It's all CDJ, no vinyl. I took a few gigs at a small space to try it out and had a great time, some people in attendance encouraged me to start looking for more gigs. I'm actually a musician who gigs fairly frequently around LA, but the DJ gigs that I see are really either just vinyl sets or full-on DJ sets at dance clubs and I'm not really in a position to do either of those. The ideal situation might be a bar or similar space that would like some curated and live-mixed music for background music but not someone who needs to drive the dance floor. One of the people in attendance for the last gig asked me if I'd DJ the cocktail hour of their film premier, which seems like a perfect setting for me. Just fairly new to the scene and trying to find a niche - anyone have any pointers on where to look?
What is the best harness/buckle situation to keep my dog safe in the car?
He loves putting his head out the window more than anything in the world but would rather make sure he's safe if an accident ever happens.
Is anyone else’s braking assist absolutely schizo?
there have been multiple instances where the braking assist just slams on the brakes for almost no reason. I’m not in any danger and yet the car feels the need to come to a complete halt. im definitely turning it off but - is this normal? this happens all the time to me.
I rent a SFH and would like to speak to the owner about rent-to-own - but the house needs some major work. What do I need to know before bringing this up with them?
The homeowner has always said that it is their plan to sell the house "in a few years or so" and retire off of the sale. I have a good relationship with the homeowner and want to open the door to moving to a rent-to-own situation with them. I'm just getting my feet wet with this process so was hoping to see what information I need to start collecting before broaching this with them.
While I really like the house, they really haven't done any major work in a long time. I do work in real estate (albeit not residential) and there is a pretty significant list of things that I'd like to see (electricity upgrades, AC install, backyard reno, kitchen cabinetry replacement). There's no chance in hell that they are going to do that but I'm wondering what that has to bear on this process. Basically, any guidance here would be great.
Kinda new to the house music scene, what are the must-visits?
I'm relatively new to the disco house/house music scene where I live (LA) and I'm making my maiden voyage out to NYC next week (6/3-9). I'm going solo and doing as much research ahead of time as I can but could use some pointers as I'm getting some conflicting information on what places are actually quality. I think for this trip I'd rather hit up larger spots and then winnow down on subsequent visits but anything is recommended. Also I'm not really a hard tech guy so I'll pass on anything that goes in that direction. Thanks :)
Here's what I've bookmarked so far:
Gabriela, THE Eli, Nowadays, Public Records, House of Yes, Good Room, Xanad, Signal, The Chocolate Factory, H0L0, Knockdown Center, Gospel, Virgo, Jean’s, Silo, Elsewhere Williamsburg
Update from dog sitter: “He just had so much fun being cuddled by a bunch of my girlfriends on the couch he was so happy, everyone adores him. now he just crawled into bed with his toy cause he’s sleepy 🥰”
and even after all that he still wants inner thigh scratches!
