Construction work in Geneva takes so long, why?

I am slightly new to Geneva and have been living here for three years. Since I arrived, I have noticed construction work going on across the city whether fixing tramways, repairing water pipes, or renovating buildings.
I understand that Switzerland has high standards when it comes to heritage preservation, environmental protection, safety, and quality. However, I wonder why AI, digital transformation, state efficiency, and effective project management hasn’t helped to ensure that all these requirements are met while projects are still completed in a timely manner?

I have a friend who works as a site engineer, and he tells me that everything in Switzerland and particularly in Geneva is much slower than elsewhere( I haven’t seen any scientific studies but I trust him).

For people who have been living in Geneva for a long time, is this actually true? Is construction and infrastructure work generally this slow, or are there specific reasons why it takes so long?

I am renting out my flat in Erbil

Hi folks; I am the owner of a furnished one bedroom apartment in Erbil in an area close to the UN compound; Empire complex; it’s called Lalav airport! I know the building isn’t as fancy as other locations; however, if you want to avoid going through annoying rental agents and deal with an owner who’s already on reddit! Then feel free to DM me, minimum one month although I prefer longer term.

UN80 and realistic reforms

I’ve worked for the UN for over six years now, across nearly three different entities. After one year; I started to learn that people who actually I work with have no faith in the organisation that it would bring change or improve the world; all what was said is this what UN could actually do; and in order to see any change the world should adjust itself not the UN.

Now it’s been over one year we are in the UN 80 reform; it’s so frustrating to me that all the colleagues and friends within the organisation who once we discussed the UN80 topic; almost have no hopes it will be implemented or have never praised the UN80 or the reforms aimed at making the UN more efficient and effective.

As a young professional, I’m concerned about the lack of faith among staff in the most serious and critical process which is the UN80.

I feel like I see more colleagues who bring up promotion, work life balance, flexible working arrangement, comfortable duty stations, longer contracts, than actually asking if our work causes any impact!

I’m struggling to find motivation to continue working for this organisation. I am so afraid at this age (only 29) I will soon become one of them and all what I would care about is more payslips and benefits; If you work for the UN, I’d love to hear your thoughts on UN80 and whether you believe it will improve the organisation. And if you’re young professionals in your early years with the UN, how is the vibe in your organisation/section?

Singularity event at Tresor tonight

Hello friends; we’re(my friend and I) visiting Berlin every now and then for clubbing! we’re both male and have been to many clubs before but not to Tresor!

We heard getting into Tresor during weekend tourist rushes is likely low for two male guys so instead of risking a rejection every time we visit Berlin we just do a round of Else, Renate and RSO, Kater, Golden Gate etc!

My question is do you think for two real high energy techno dancing people is still as hard as to get in on weekends?

Have you been to tresor on Mondays and tonight’s Singularity event? Anything you like to share apart from things we already know is very welcome.
