Rate my tank!!!

My tanks officially cycled I rescaped and added shrimp then my betta back in so there’s no territorial fights lol. Pretty happy with how it turned out. I think my betta appreciates more swimming room now too. Let me know your thoughts and opinions!!!!

I think I messed up and planed plants that are supposed to be glued and tied.

Not really a beginner to aquariums but I’ve never done much with planted freshwaters so I’m kinda new to that. I may have planted Java ferns into fluval with sand on top. They aren’t very deeply buried. I got them from a local pet store they barely have roots.
I also planted long haired grass that does have decent root systems and the other curly fern forgot the name. I already think I murdered the one type of plant I added forgot the name but you’ll see the graveyard of disintegrated plant parts. About to clean tank don’t judge she’s grubby. And yes my moss is just in there kinda floating. The idea of glue in tank freaks me out I’m insane. How can I save my plants… should I be adding c02? Do I need to uproot all these and do something else ? If so I can fix while cleaning !

My betta has a redish gill..

Ive had this betta for about a week now. Tank is almost cycled, ( ik it’s not good to fish in cycle, wasn’t by choice) waiting for more nitrates to read. Right now it’s reading 0 ammonia 0 nitrites, and justttt starting to give nitrates. I checked the water last night and this morning. Did a 25% water change the other day and used conditioner ofc. Now I noticed this guy this am and he has a swollen gill. Hard to tell if it’s both sides or one. I was hoping he was just developing more color but it looks almost inflamed. He has live plants, driftwood. Hang on the back filter ( about to add a bubbler for more oxygen wondering if that’s the issue). When I get out of work I’m going to run to petco and get salt to give him a salt bath. Is there something else I should try? His gills don’t seem to be open like gill hyperplasia. Should I treat for parasites too? I don’t want to stress him out too much. Temperature is fine too 76-78

Any help or suggestions would be AMAZING <3
I feel so bad for Mr. Fish.

What could be wrong with his gills?

Just noticed this guy seems to be coming up to the top every minute or 30 seconds. Doesn’t seem to be GULPING for air just comes and gets some a little more often than most it feels. I did notice a little redness around his gills. Could just be his coloring too considering he’s koi colored. Best suggestions? Salt bath tonight?

Update on my in fish cycle!!

My tank is about one week old I lost track… but it is now going through the diatoms phase ( the ugly phase. I did a tiny water change just to clear some of it out and the front of the glass but didn’t worry about taking much algae out. I figured as it’s not harmful it can only help this tank cycle 🤷🏼‍♀️. Should I clean it off my filter? Didn’t want to touch that till tanks 100% cycled.

Ammonia nitrites and nitrates are all still reading 0ppm. Plants are still alive.
I did notice my filter is pretty low flow and was thinking to add a tiny sponge filter so I didn’t destroy the cycle and it wouldn’t be too much flow with two filters in a 6 gal long. Anyone else done this?

I’ve had this tank setup for a couple days, has now had a betta in there for about 72 hours. Not doing a fish-in cycle by choice! Not my first method at all ( it’s a longgg story will explain if someone really wants to hear it.) I just want peoples best advice. Not necessarily new to the fish keeping world but not EXTREMELY knowledgeable.

The tank is planted. Has fluval stratum then aqua natural bio substrate said to have live bacteria to help kick the nitrogen cycle. I also have a beneficial bacteria pouch, driftwood and leaf to release tannins. API quick start, obviously water conditioner/stress treatment. I have some seachem products on hand in case as well. Temp is around 78
It’s a 6 gallon tank with a hang on the back filter. Would like to change it to a sponge once tank is cycled because the filters where bacteria is living.

So far I’ve had no ammonia spikes but wondering if I will even be able to see one due to all the bacteria I’ve added when setting up and the live plants.
Hardness, kh, and ph are all fine.
Nitites nitrates and ammonia are all still 0ppm. Do you think this tank will cycle faster considering the things I have added? Obviously all tanks don’t have a specific amount of time.

Any good advice is greatly appreciated and your personal experiences cycling tanks well with fish or no fish welcome too.

This is my one year old Thai con that I can’t seem to get to fenestrate. Now it has a little root rot after being repotted into a well draining soil. I cut back on watering as soon as I noticed. Usually only water 50% dry. But I see tons of new growth so do you think I’d be fine just leaving her alone and continue watering. I let her dry out to almost 100%. Can hydrogen peroxide help stop the spread when using it with watering?
