depression around birthdays, coming of meds

Hey guys, I recently turned twenty-seven and have been feeling emotional…two years ago almost exactly, I’ve been hospitalized for my first manic/psychotic episode that was triggered by an anti-depressant and multiple life stressors. Since then I’ve been medicated, and my psychiatrist told me it was safe to taper, given that the risk for mania is a bit lower (he thinks).

I haven’t really found that medication has helped with my depression; my psychiatrist also doesn’t think that my depression is so much biological as it is social and psychological, as in I have some very negative thinking patterns that I need to change. I still worry that my emotions will get even more intense though and possibly more depressed too, but also I already feel dull…

is it foolish of me to want to get off my meds? I mean, psychosis was the most terrifying experience of my life, but again, there were so many factors at play…shock of coming home after long solo trip, looking for work, processing past trauma, antidepressant, poor sleep, substances (usually never drink/smoke) plus I didn’t have the education back then of bipolar to fully realize what was going on, I feel like I’m quite self-aware and would be better at spotting the signs now.

That was the only time I had a manic episode, if it was more reoccurring and frequently oscillating, I would probably think it’s better to stay on the meds. What are your thoughts? What should I expect coming off meds, any change? I am a bit worried if this is the right time given that I’m especially sensitive, but also craving change and fresh start so bad…I've been feeling like the last two years I've been living in pause

Should a guy send a follow up text after you first hooked up, assuming it went well?

Hey, so I (26F) started dating a guy and things were all going pretty well, felt chill, easy going, etc. and eventually went back to his place and we hooked up. He was very communicative earlier, in regards to sex and before that, but then after sex, I didn't hear from him and he didn't offer to walk me to the bus stop or offer umbrella (started to rain). Based on the way he was talking, it sounded like he wanted the hanging out/hooking up to be an ongoing thing, so I didn't doubt his interest in me or attraction, cause again, he communicated that. He sent me a message the following morning, basically just saying he had fun. I would've really appreciated it if he asked me if I got home today or any kind of brief check in with how I was feeling. Am I overreacting? Are these unwritten rules, or is it not the norm, but something I should've suggested? Is it post nut clarity or something? lol personally, after a lot of talking earlier, I didn't mind having some space, but again wished that he was more considerate. Would that be a deal breaker for you? He seemed receptive to feedback, but I just don't want to be in the position where I have to ask a guy to be more considerate if it doesn't come naturally to them? Curious to hear your thoughts! Thanks.

dating when you have bipolar...when did you disclose?

Hi guys, so I (26F) haven't dated in awhile— since the past two years, I became pretty withdrawn after experiencing my crisis—a manic episode, followed by taking antidepressants which resulted in psychosis and trip hospital (and diagnosis of bipolar 1 shortly after my 25th birthday...but luckily, no major depression or mania since)

...understandably, it was a lot to take in. So I became withdrawn. Not crazy withdrawn— I've still been pushing myself to get out and do things, more so recently this Spring, and I feel like I'm pretty good at managing my symptoms, and it's not something where you could tell right away that I have a mental illness— unless being an artist is some giveaway haha jk, and maybe the fact that I don't have a job atm, but for real, I met this guy, wasn't really expecting it, he's cute and easy to talk to and seems emotionally mature and intelligent, and there's already been some green flags I think that he'd be understanding I think (like checking in with my anxiety rather than ignoring it or acting uncomfortable by it)

soooo yesterday was the second date, we kissed, and today will be the third and looks like we'd be having sex (don't want to rush it but we were both free then and it made sense) andddd I'm not sure if I should

  1. message him before over text, so he doesn't feel so on the spot maybe, and can give him a chance to reflect better or

  2. wait until I see him in person so I can read his emotions better and feel more connected as I speak or lastly

  3. tell him after another couple of dates, after more intimacy (sex) so that there's more trust there BUT would definitely be before the 'are we exclusive' or 'bf/gf' category, (if it even got to that) like before it progresses more seriously and there's more investment. I'm worried that sex would blur things or make it harder for me to feel seen I guess if I opened up emotionally later.

I'll probably send him a text (without going into to much detail) beforehand, and hopefully then we can continue that conversation in person and hopefully that won't interfere with the intimacy if more happens. Any feedback is highly welcomed! 😄

I don't want to mess this up! haha, thanks.
