Are there any engenes in Ottawa that would like to be friends?

I know this is a (very) long shot but I was wondering if there are any engenes around Ottawa that would like to be friends? All my fan interactions so far have been on reddit, but I’ve been wanting to make in person engene friends as well! Just to preface, I would really love to make friends that I can meet irl someday, but would be completely open to getting to know each other online for a while to see if we can connect, or mainly interact online if it’s hard to meet!

I thought it might be helpful to include some information about me, just so you can get an idea of what kind of person I am :D

Enha-related info:

Non-enha-related info:

  • 18 years old
  • Very much an INFJ
  • Going to be a first year uni student in september
  • I like having close friendships and will put in the effort to build them!
  • I also think I would personally feel most comfortable with people around my age, maybe less than 3 years apart?

I’ll probably(?) be deleting this post in a few days because it gives my location+age, but please feel free to dm me even after that! tysm for reading all this if you did!

betting 3 photocards that this is not happening

🦊 oh, and there’s something else that’ll be revealed later too, and the photos we took then are honestly amazing
🦊 honestly, this is something that even the members and the company might not approve ㅋㅋㅋ
🦊 i briefly showed just one staff member before, and their reaction was ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
🦊 if i were to give you a hint…
🦊 it’s about the amount of skin showing
🦊 that’s all i’ll say
🦊 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
🦊 i think that photo might be the most “han sunoo” photo ever
🦊 but if posting the video we filmed gets confirmed, i’ll definitely post the picture
🦊 i think i’ll probably upload them once i’m back in korea, but i’ll ask about it first and then let you know. ㅎ
🦊 but i think everyone’s going to go crazy over it
🦊 ,,,,
🦊 but seriously, it’s not edited, it actually came out looking like that in real life
🦊 alright, i should stop talking now ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

(taken from prettyksky community, Sunoo DMs today)

I learned my lesson from the eat sleep en-dive drinking scenes, this is about to be lost media pt 1009. But what content do you think would even call for these pics? I was wondering if it might be calvin klein actually happening but then there's no reason the staff wouldn't approve

Point, line, and planes: A math student’s scene by scene analysis of the brand renewal film

Did any other students studying vectors get whiplash reading “A point meets another to form a line, intersecting lines a plane, and these planes, in turn…” on the hybe building? I love how we’ve switched from grammar lore to math lore XD In any case, I wanted to analyze the most recent brand renewal film through the lens of what was written on the hybe building 2 days ago, because it made me see the video with a different perspective!

Through the analysis, I will be referencing scenes from the film. I’ll include some of them in this post, and refer to them as pic 1, 2, 3, etc, so that you can look at them while you read if you want to. The last pic is the hybe building paragraph that you can also reference!

The first scene shows Jungwon from a bird’s eye view perspective (pic 1), which is a limited perspective as we can only see his head. I saw jungwon from this perspective as a hyphen shape, which if intentional, I think is really interesting, because I see jungwon as the very embodiment of enhypen, and many of us have grown to associate enhypen with the hyphen. This shows how when we limit our perspective of enhypen to just the hyphen/em-dash, we don’t perceive their full, greater potential. The shot of Jungwon then zooms out to a point on a white background, portraying Jungwon as the point (a zero-dimensional exact location in space).

The next few shots show circles, and in this context, both circles and the members represent singular points. Just as Jungwon from the bird’s eye perspective is a point, so is Sunoo in the droplet (pic 2), Jake in the bubble, Sunghoon’s eye, and Jay in the round window. A compass is used to draw a perfect circle/point, the first existing dimension (zero dimension), while enhypen walk in the same circular motion, following the compass.

A die with the top face being six dots forming a circle/point is then turned so that the top face is the 6 dots (members) forming a line. The next scene is the members repositioning themselves from a circular point to a line, and in math, a line is made up of continuous points. Even though each enha member is a zero dimensional point, when they meet they are able to reach the first dimension by forming a line segment. Literally, this scene is the shift from zero dimensional to one dimensional, but figuratively, it implies that when enhypen are together, they obtain the ability to connect. As written on the hybe building, “A point meets another to form a line”, and enhypen embodies that meeting.

The next few shots evolve this idea. A finger spreads the droplet of water to form a line, the hyphen is created. However, something interesting happens after. When jay and sunghoon stand together(pic 3), their shadows (individual lines) intersect. As the hybe building thing said, “intersecting lines (form) a plane”, and the connections enhypen makes are not limited to one-dimensionality, thus we move to the second planar dimension. Pic 4 is another example of the intersection of two lines creating a plane.

The next shots continue to portray different intersections, and my personal favorite is pic 5. In this frame, you can see that enhypen are standing in a line just like before, but from this angle, you can also see that they are facing different ways, evoking the idea of the existence of not just one, but multiple planes. This marks the shift from 2 dimensional to 3 dimensional space. As sunghoon stands in front of the buildings in pic 6, we once again realize that while we can only see the 2 dimensional front faces of the buildings, we can tell that the buildings exist on different planes, transitioning from 2D to 3D! As the hybe paragraph said “These planes, in turn, scale into multidimensional structures and dynamic currents”.

Right after this, the hyphen-shaped block of ice melts into a more mathematically complex spiral (pic 7), and then, everything changes once again. Jay walks on one visible plane, then we can see that Sunoo stands on another (pic 8). The pencil that was drawing the points, lines, and circles breaks, we are transcending two dimensional space, outgrowing it. After this, I don’t really know how to break it down but basically things get weird and either very complex or just unexplainable overall. Lots of warping, ripple effects, many more organic and amorphous shapes compared to the rigid and minimal geometry that the film started with. We are very very much in 3D space, and ready to evolve to even more dimensions and see what we can achieve.

I believe that the purpose of the film is ultimately to use mathematical dimensions to show enhypen’s figurative multidimensionality and growth from i-land to today, while alluding to the fact that they still have so much room to grow, so many new dimensions to discover. In the last scene, after much moving around, enhypen are standing still again on the new logo, which can’t be labeled by words. It’s not a rectangle, not a hyphen, not a circle or a sphere. It’s a living, changing cell, it’s a snapshot of enhypen as they are now. Enhypen is enhypen (jayyy), and I can’t wait to see what they do next!

everything i said here is just what i think and please lmk your interpretations as well :)

What are your favorite moments as an engene?

When the new enha logo came out, I liked the design but also felt nostalgic reflecting back on the past years. I was just thinking about how many amazing moments I’ve had as a part of this fandom, and I wanted to ask about other engenes' favorite memories as well :D

Some of my personal ones to start off:

  • Staying up to watch enchella, and silently losing it as soon as blockbuster started playing
  • MAMA 2025: From waking up at 5 am to vote, constantly refreshing the page of a random website in the middle of class to see who won the daesang, then crying so hard when I finally got home and watched their acceptance speech
  • Watching the life-altering orange blood concept cinema for the first time
  • Recieving an unexpected sunoo photocard gift from my friend who didn’t know about the existence of enhypen and had to do a lot of research and reverse image searching to find them during their trip to japan
  • Seeing the walk the line movie with my carat friend and being able to experience a room  full of engenes and interact with them when giving out freebies. It was such a surreal experience! (one day I will see them in person, enhypen please come to canada)

Do you have any favorite engene memories from your life?

10 things I learned from Sunoo (please add yours too!)

In my life, I sometimes notice habits in the people I admire that I consciously or unconsciously implement myself, and one of the people that inspires me the most is sunoo! I won’t be able to participate in many of the celebrations this year, like the birthday live, as I have a very busy day the 24th, so to celebrate a bit early, I wanted to make a post of the things I learned from my bias over my three years as an engene, including both simple and lighthearted things, and more significant ones.

  1. Don’t miss vitamin C: I remember in a video, Sunoo said that no matter how lazy he felt, even if he skipped his supplements, he still took vitamin C. I felt targeted hearing him, because that’s the supplement I missed most often, but since then have been adopting this mentality
  2. Everything is hard, so just do what you want” is a quote I think many engenes remember from his en-log. This year, uni decisions left me feeling like if I made the wrong choice, my whole life’s trajectory would be skewed. Whenever I got anxious about my choices, I remembered that no matter what, there will always be something you give up from your decisions, so I should freely go after what I want most.
  3. Taking care of your appearance for yourself: I have a pretty traditional family, so for most of my life, it’s been an expectation that as a girl, I should want to look pretty, and should put a lot of effort into my appearance. Overall, my environment led me to develop the association that maintaining your appearance is an unenjoyable but inevitable task with the goal of catering towards others. While part of an idol’s job is exactly that, seeing sunoo seem to genuinely enjoy it outside of necessity, made me want to try the same, not for others but just for me, and it’s a small hobby that I have grown to enjoy.
  4. Appreciating the small things in life
  5. Exploring with the zoom feature: Sunoo shares a lot of pictures of the sky and of street lamps, and they are often a little grainy due to probably being zoomed in all the way. I’ve loved photography for years, but always stayed away from the zoom feature, but I’ve recently started trying some zoomed pictures as well, and it really does have a certain aesthetic (ddeon vibe?) to it
  6. Not taking things tooo seriously
  7. Herbal teas: In the en-log where he goes to haidilao, sunoo mentioned that he recently started drinking a lot of herbal teas instead of soft drinks during meals. I don’t know if he still does, as it hasn’t been mentioned since, but I hadn’t really considered drinking teas outside of winter, and have been drinking a lot more tea since, as well as many different kinds.
  8. “I was worried that this time would be hard too, and it was hard” This was said in a -note, and I sometimes think of the quote when I’m about to start a difficult project or task, it always motivates me
  9. “As I get through each day like this, it makes me really look forward to my future self” ([-note] 200717) was said by sunoo before he even debuted, and looking at the person he is now, his past self truly had so much to look forward to. A common theme in the things to take away from sunoo’s personality and mindset is self improvement as a form of self care, a gift to yourself in the future, and that can be summarized in this quote. When I’m going through a difficult time, or having to put in the effort to learn or build better habits, implementing this mindset helps me reframe tedious work as a positive investment for the future :)
  10. Mint choco supremacy: The sharp and bright mint perfectly offsets the creamy base and rich chocolate shards! I was never a hater but didn’t bother to try it until recently. I wanted to see why he likes it so much, or why the other members hate it, but I understand the hype now

I sincerely hope sunoo continues to live a fulfilling life, and takes care of himself above anything else! If there’s anything you learned from him, any small habits you’ve started to notice in yourself, or anything that particularly inspires you or motivates you about his mindset, I would really love to hear it :D

edit: i also realized that i forgot that time zones are a thing, so i should have just posted it on the 23rd for me but have it still be on the 24th in korea :,)

Recommedations for songs similar to ˗ˏˋYves' discographyˎˊ˗

hello! I've been listening to yves since her solo debut, and have never been able to find songs like hers. The closest I was able to personally get was lexie liu, but I wasn't able to find anything with yves' signature combination of hyperpop, pop, electronic, and rnb sound. Could anyone please recommend any kpop, k-rnb, or k-indie songs with elements that remind you of yves?

I know there already are some posts asking for these kinds of recs, but I feel like a lot of the recs lean a bit more house and electronic inspired than most yves songs, more like the deep or f(x)'s, so I wanted to try asking if anyone knows any other similar songs :))

tysm in advance!

am I cooked for my first year course selection due to my time ticket?

Helloo

I'll be taking honors CS with coop starting september, and just got my time ticket for july 8th, which is the last day possible for first years. I wanted to ask any more experienced students, will most courses/the best electives be filled up at the time? Additionally, would earlier times (morning/early afternoon classes) fill up the fastest? I would really appreciate any advice on how to plan my practice timetables knowing that I'll likely be getting the last picks for courses, or just any advice in general from students about carleton, uni, and taking CS (if that would be alright to ask)

tysm! and good luck to everyone with your course selection as well!

Future perfect (pass the mic) analysis and appreciation

I love future perfect and manifesto soo much, I feel like they never get analyzed or appreciated lyrically the way that some of the other albums do. I don’t know if some of these ideas have been expressed by others, but I wanted to share my thoughts on the lyrics of future perfect (pass the mic).

The song starts with the iconic line “Walk the line, I hate that line”. The line they are referring to is the hyphen between their past title track names, such as “GIven-taken” and “Tamed-dashed”. For all of these songs, the hyphen represents the border between two extremes, such as one’s fate being granted or earned, or existence as a being that was “tamed” by someone, or who chose to “dash” themselves. These songs are about questioning where the speaker, enhypen, lies between these two extremes, debating the extent of their agency over themselves. “Future perfect” is the first title track to not include a dash in the title, and “Manifesto” is one of the first albums after the “border” series. In saying “Walk the line, I hate that line”, they are casting away “the line”, and instead of spending time wondering about whether they truly have the power to determine their own fate, enhypen chooses to just act, and regain control over their future. The song as a whole highlights the importance of “putting your hands up” and taking a stance.

In the first verse, Ni-ki says (I got) “Tagged, given, tamed, all passive voices”, which references their earlier songs. This line is followed by “All passive voices, kill the past, just get lost”. In the past, the speaker was “given” and “tamed”, meaning that they were subservient, and controlled. This is also another grammatical reference, as “Tagged, given, tamed” all use passive voice, which is “a grammatical construction where the subject of a sentence receives the action rather than performing it” (Hamilton College). “Passive voice” alludes to the speaker/enhypen themselves being passive. The internal voices doubting enhypen and “walking the line” are cast aside in order to take action instead. Sunghoon continues the verse with “Just get lost, you’re judging who’s worthy? I’m out of your enclosure”. I interpret this as directed at himself/enhypen and their self doubt. “Judging one’s worth” is engaging in thoughts like “Is my fate given or taken” and “Have I been tamed or dashed”, and this limits enhypen’s confidence and ability to take control of their future, which is why they are breaking out of the limitations of self-doubt. As Sunoo and Heeseung :’) say, “I wanna stand on my own feet, Everything else is meaningless, Bring out my own voice, And draw our future”.

Some other important background information in case someone doesn’t know is that future perfect is a grammatical tense that is used to look back to the past from the future. An example of the tense being used in the lyrics of the song is in the prechorus “That moment in our future perfect, (Shout out together) You and I will have become us”.  This is also my favorite part of the song :DD Although “Manifesto” diverges directly from the format and themes of the border series, it still explores lines indirectly. The tense “future perfect” can be thought of as the grammatical “line” between the future and past. I think it’s so interesting how the overarching theme of the song is to act in the present, so that in the future, one can look back to the past positively. To me, it creates this idea that the determining factor is action in the present, effectively, that the present is the bridge/line between the past and future.

Recently, I have also been caught up in a lot of questioning, self doubt, and fear of my future, so the lyrics to this song have been very comforting to listen to

Please share your thoughts and ideas too!! This was also my first reddit post so I apologize if it is hard to read or overly wordy.
