I never understood the characters' lack of money. Like, is a surgical intern's salary a bag of chips and a handshake?
What gets me is the episode where Lexie and George go to live in that captivity and she just starts stealing things from the hospital. Which doesn't make sense because they spent more time at the hospital than at home anyway, so their household bills should be low, right?
I have a theory that Lexie was in that situation because she had daddy issues.
But that doesn't explain Jo going to live in a similar captivity with Alex. She was a resident, I think she could have chosen a better place than an apartment without walls in a suspicious neighborhood, but I think she said "once or twice" that she lived in a car, so maybe that was a palace that came with the bonus of keeping Alex away from Meredith.
