Dr. Ginevra underwent emergency brain surgery and is now legally blind.

I received this email today and I’m so sorry for her:

Dear readers, my name is Elizabeth, I am Ginevra's sister. I have news that Ginevra wanted to share with her community.

After suffering two seizures on Easter, Ginevra underwent emergency surgery for a high‑grade malignant brain tumor and is now legally blind.

Everything happened so quickly that our family is still reeling. The changes we must now make to daily life are daunting. Ginevra needs ongoing assistance and can no longer safely get around on her own. The costs of specialized care, adaptive equipment, and lost income are overwhelming, especially given the financial sacrifices she has already made throughout her career.

With the precious time she has left, her greatest wish is to be with her son, Kai, and to finish documenting her invaluable and unique lifetime of work on understanding Fibromyalgia from a scientific perspective.

Please consider donating to or sharing her GoFundMe page: HERE

Your gift will help provide the specialized treatment, rehabilitation, and support services that can prolong her life and maximize her time and quality of life with her son and family. It will also help her access adaptive tools and a writing assistant to continue sharing her hard‑earned knowledge with the fibromyalgia community, despite her vision loss.

We are deeply grateful for any help you can provide — whether through a financial contribution, sharing this page, or keeping Ginevra and our family in your thoughts. She has taken care of others for so long. We are hoping you can help us take care of her, now.
Thank you for standing with her.

With love,
Elizabeth

They are so happy

A neighbor was getting rid of these and gave them to me to rescue in March. Here we are mid-May and I’ve got multiple blooms!

Grand Strand Water & Sewer customers to see 10% increase tied "forever chemicals"

In addition to the shoreline contamination in this article, Grand Strand Water & Sewer customers may see a roughly 10% water-rate increase tied in part to new PFAS treatment requirements.

These “forever chemicals” have been detected in waterways connected to the Pee Dee watershed, Bull Creek, and the Intracoastal Waterway that feed into our regional water system.

The chemicals drawing the most concern include PFOA, PFOS, GenX, PFHxS, and PFNA.

Studies have linked long-term exposure to some PFAS compounds with kidney and testicular cancer, thyroid disease, liver damage, reduced immune response, elevated cholesterol, and developmental risks in children.

For coastal communities like Murrells Inlet, this is not just about utility bills. It is about the long-term health of our marshes, fisheries, wildlife, drinking water, and public trust.

In the meantime, homeowners can take practical steps:

• Review your GSWSA water quality reports and PFAS updates

• Consider NSF-certified reverse osmosis systems or activated carbon filters specifically tested for PFAS reduction

• Limit use of stain-resistant sprays, waterproofing treatments, and older nonstick products

• Avoid flushing chemicals, solvents, or unknown products into drains

• Support stronger industrial discharge oversight and watershed monitoring in Horry and Georgetown counties

• Pay attention to local discussions around estuary health, dredging, stormwater runoff, and upstream industrial pollution

PFAS contamination is now a national infrastructure and public health issue. Coastal South Carolina should not wait until the damage is harder and more expensive to reverse.

I’m purchasing a zero water pitcher as we speak.

Miscalculation Leaves S.C. $25M Short for State Scholarships

“The commission initially projected it would need $302 million and it had $2.7 million in carryover funds—but now it will likely need $330 million.”

What is it with officials not knowing how to account for finances correctly.

SC nonprofit gives out fake “Blue Ribbon School” awards for a fee

I wonder how long this has been going and how many parents are aware.

An investigation by NJ Spotlight News found that schools spent public funds on “Blue Ribbon” awards from a South Carolina nonprofit that critics say can mislead parents into believing the honors are tied to rigorous national academic standards.

Parents, advocates, and some education officials argue the program relies heavily on paid applications and marketing language that resembles the far more prestigious federal Blue Ribbon Schools Program, creating confusion about school quality and accountability.

The article raises broader concerns about transparency, the commercialization of school recognition programs, and whether taxpayer money should fund awards that critics describe as more promotional than merit-based.

House of Spirits (2026)?

How is there not a show/episode discussion about the House of Spirits yet? It’s got a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes!

As an avid fan of Isabel Allende, I had doubts about this Eva Longoria adaptation but I have to say I’m 6/8 episodes in and it is really good.

Let’s Get Esme Adopted

She’s been waiting THREE YEARS for a home through Angel Pets by the MarshWalk and somehow keeps getting overlooked.

Esme is playful, affectionate, house-trained, vaccinated, good with kids, and gets along with other cats. She deserves a couch, a sunny window, and someone to love.

If anyone around the Grand Strand has been thinking about adopting, please take a look or help share her profile locally.
