How can I tell a fair price for a used bike in NYC?

Hi! I'm looking for my first road bike and I'd like to buy used. I keep hitting the same issue when I go to ask for advice on Reddit – everyone says the prices are crazy high. I suspect they don't live in NYC, and that the prices are substantially inflated here compared to other parts of the country.

What's a good way of telling if a used bike in good condition is being sold for a fair price? Two examples:

  1. A Trek Pilot 2.1 for $550 (i'm so sad, let this slip out of my hands at bike jumble today!)

  2. A Specialized Dolce for $400 that I might buy from FB marketplace

Both seem to be in good condition, and I may be able to haggle. Any thoughts?

Any tips for Bike Jumble?

Hi! I just decided that I'm interested in getting my first road bike, and to my delight – this weekend is bike jumble!

It's my first time going, any tips for how to score a deal on a bike in a good condition? Wondering if I should expect the bikes to be in decent shape, or if there's a range.

$350 for this Trek 1.2?

Hi! I'm looking to buy my first road bike. I'm new to the field, any advice on whether this is worth it?

I found this on FB marketplace in NYC, where bikes are definitely pricier. The seller didn't have much info, only that it was a 52 cm. AI told me this was a Trek 1.2 Alpha Aluminum.

For context, I'm a 5'5 F who's looking for a used bike that's light, fast and under $400.

Hi! I have National Grid as my provider for my small 1 bedroom. I realized recently that my gas prices are actually going up from what they were in the winter, even though the weather is getting warmer. I'm now paying around $75 per month. Does that seem normal to anyone? TIA
