Jacobean Crewel work

I've become totally enamored with Jacobean Crewel style embroidery and want to try it. Here's my question though: where do I get the fabric I would need? Is linen twill the only kind of fabric that works or are there other options? There are no stores near me that seem to sell it (I live in Maryland, USA), and the only places online I can find would be super expensive to have shipped to me on top of an already high fabric cost per yard. Any tips?

Looking for books with unique illustration styles

I'm a children's librarian and I run a program where we learn about the illustration styles of specific children's book illustrators. I'm looking for artists who do particularly unique illustrations. For example, Winona Nelson did a beautiful book where the illustrations were partially done with seed beads stitched onto the paper. I would love to find more books like that, with really unusual styles of illustration!

What is going on here?

My thumb nails have suddenly gotten really dry around the cuticles despite using oil and hand cream to keep my cuticles healthy. I compulsively pick at dry cuticles so I’m just making it worse. How do I heal this?

Most interstin

I collect library cards as souvenirs, and I know I'm not the only one. I'd love to see your most interesting/favorite card in your collection! My new favorite is from Cherokee, NC, which has the name of the library in the Cherokee language printed on it!

ISO pattern like Sezane Giselle top

Anyone know of a pattern similar to this top? It's so cute and as soon as I saw it I thought "I bet I could make that" There are no pics of the back unfortunately but I'm imagining the cinched waist goes all the way around. I've done a fair amount of digging around on Ravelry for tank patterns in the past, and I can't think of a specific pattern that has this kind of waist/hem design.

In search of a childhood book

I'm hunting for a book I remember having as a child that was a collection of international fairy tales. I remember that the art style was very interesting and striking, not what you'd expect from a children's book. One of the stories was about a girl who lived in a village where the children kept getting stolen by a giant or ogre (I can't remember which) who lived in the forest nearby, and the girl tricked the giant by convincing her that she would look so beautiful with pierced ears like hers. She pierced the giants ears by driving a stake through them into the ground, then escaped. That story was from somewhere in Africa, I believe, but I can't remember the specific country. I think one of the other stories was about Raven stealing the sun, the Inuit folktale. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I would love to find it again!
