Help strengthening natural nails

Hello my beautiful polished friends! I am getting back into painting my nails again regularly after years of on and off nail care. I desperately need help with a routine and products for my nails. I am a cuticle picker to the max, so please pardon the cuticles as it’s something I’m also working on!

TLDR product list:
Nailtiques formula 2
Bliss kiss cuticle oil
Biotin supplements
Marin hand lotion

Previously I was using OPI Nail Envy as a nourisher/base coat, but my nails fracture and bend often, so I recently switched to Nailtiques formula 2. However, now I’m getting chips in my nails as they are harder, but more brittle (and still getting some splitting, see thumb pics.)

I have the bliss kiss cuticle oil pen that I am trying to apply after every hand wash, but I work in veterinary medicine and I’m washing my hands so constantly that it’s hard to keep up. I also garden and do woodworking, so I’m just overall hard on my hands. I have a lovely Marin lotion that I also apply as much as possible.

I would absolutely love recommendations on base coats to help my nails, as well as shaping advice because I feel like my natural nails have major duck-feet syndrome going on unless I push my cuticles back like a spartan shield wall.

Pictures included from today and a few weeks ago before life got in the way of remembering to post.

TLDR: bendy fractury nails now also brittle, pls help my fan ass nails

Peeling won’t stop

These are the most egregious, but all fingers are peeling in this way. My thumb nails seem ok. I’ve been oiling. Moisturizing. Wearing polish. Taking a break from polish. Tried Essie nail repair to hold the peels down. Buffing them. Leaving them alone. Wearing gloves to wash dishes. Using disposable gloves to prep food.

I’m at my wits end. I just want to wear my pretty polish. I can’t even have shorties.

Ideas?

Nail care for soft/splitting/hooked nail following injury

M31 - partial index finger amputation.

I partially amputated my left index finger in 2018 so safe to say it's fully healed. I'm self conscious about the injury and the nail and tend to try and hide it.

The injury has left about half the nail bed and the nail that grows is thicker than normal, and softer. It tends to split along the grain at the sides and there are often spots or lines, I assume of blood underneath. The nail now curves towards the tip of my finger which gets in the way.

I'd like to know if there are any products I should look into to help strengthen the nail, thin it out of possible and help it straighten. Overall I'd like to improve the appearance and gain confidence and dexterity.

Would anyone recommend visiting a doctor to discuss?

This seems to be the right page for help, but please recommend others if this is not correct.

Please help!

Difference between metalworking bits and nail bits?

This is pretty niche, but is there a difference in terms of safety/quality of diamond bits? I’ve been interested in doing a Russian manicure on myself for a while and have a bunch of diamond bits + a flex shaft. However, they are technically made for working with metal, not nails. Do I need to buy a new set specifically for Russian manicures, or is it safe and effective to use the bits I already have? If I have to buy new bits, any recommendations would be super helpful!

what is this?? weird dots on finger tip after using press on nails (glue reaction?)

Weird holes/dots under my nails after using press on nails. I’ve gotten contact dermatitis or something similar (itchy reaction to the glue) before but wore these to my graduation for one day. Just noticed them today. Blurred my nails because I bite and pick at them lol. The dots are on maybe 4 other nails in the same area. Is it some sort of reaction to the glue and should I go to a dermatologist/worry? Honestly is a lil freaky looking but doesn’t itch or hurt.

what is going on with my toenails?

hi, last year i had noticed yellowing on my toenails, i believe it was from my nail polish/ using acetone. i ended up leaving my toes naked for a few months and notice the yellowing going away as they grew. march this year i painted them again and now i have this…. it seems to be underneath my nail, doesn’t feel flaky/brittle by any means or bothersome, just ugly lol

HELP !! 😭

Nail infection?

Hi! I had some press ons on for about a week and once I took them off my nail looks like this. Is this an infection? If so, what kind and how can I treat? Google hasn’t helped me as I can’t find a picture similar.

Help!!

How do I salvage my nails from this?? Every time I grow them to a desirable length, my thumb nails do this. Every. Single. Time. I don't know what causes it and I don't know how to fix and/or prevent it. Advice is much appreciated!!

What are those black marks on my nails?

I recently stopped biting my nails after biting them my whole life (yay!) and i’m in the process of growing them out. I’ve noticed these marks on several nails. They are not dirt and I cannot wipe them. This is the first time i see something like this so i have no idea what they could be. Any ideas?
Also please ignore the state of my nails i still haven’t gotten a manicure since growing them out).

Nails are broken, brittle, hurt

I’m a nail biter and I’m tired of getting acrylics and ripping them off. Any idea on how I can grow my nails and make them healthy? They look awful and all I do is pick at them and it’s embarrassing

Is there hope for this nail??

so I work at a barn and was filling a hard plastic hay feeder that has a screw top lid. I was reaching inside and my pinky nail got caught in the edge and hurt so bad I silently cried and almost cursed a bloodline in the process. Could barely bend it that day and ANY touch hurt, that was Friday.

come Sunday am it was oozing a yellow/green pus from under the nail and a clear bubbly liquid. promptly went to urgent care and they prescribed antibiotics + some cream rx for under my nail.

MIND YOU I have acrylics on so I can’t easily see the nail bed rn.

okay so it’s Tuesday evening and this is how my nail moves with light pressure upwards, showed other nails just for reference and yes my hands dirty and yes my nails need to be redone I’m working on it

is the next step getting acetone and soaking off the acrylic? and cutting my natural nail down? PLEASEEEE I DONT WANT TO LOSE MY NAIL IM SCARED

edited for spelling error

How badly are my nails messed up??

Soooo, long story short, I broke my desk and it hit my fingers. Should I be worried about my nails? It looks like part of my pointer finger's nail got chipped off, and I think it's a lot lighter than my other nails in comparison.

Is this fixable?

The nail on my left pinky has been lifted like this for a couple of years now. I really don't know why it started to happen, I didn't even realize it bc I didn't used to care about my nails that much, and it has never been itchy or painful. I wonder if there's anything I can do at home to make it grow normally?

Why do I have these droplet like textures on some of my nails?

I don’t paint my nails or do anything with them, but 2 of my nails have what looks like little droplets going down them.

Are there any nail strengthening serums that ACTUALLY work???

I have worked very hard to stop biting my nails, I even have a manicure booked in two months, but my nails are so weak. I desperately need a nail strengthener that actually works. Any recommendations?

Permanent hangnail

So I’m not usually one to fix my nails, but my nails are naturally strong look ok natural (in my opinion). But I have a permanent hangnail that I have had for years. I never pull on it, but it doesn’t grow together. I cant afford to go to a professional, but is there anything I can do at home to fix this? Ive tried cutting it and I’ve tried leaving it alone… what do I do?
