Bit of context - I, (16F) and my bf (17M) have been dating for about 3 years now, and have only started having sex since a few months ago. He isn’t a religious guy, neither am I a religious girl, but he wanted to wait until we were a bit older and had both of our parents’ approvals to do sexual stuff. I actually followed through on that and respected his boundaries, asking my mom and dad if they’d be okay with us having safe sex. Needless to say, my mom and dad both called me weird for asking lmao..they said normal teenagers would just hide it, and lowkey, my mom wishes I did 😭😭 but since my boyfriend really insisted, I asked them despite feeling a bit uncomfortable about it.

Few months pass by, I just missed my period. It’s a only a week late right now, and I’ve been super stressed lately, as well as not really sleeping or eating well. This isn’t the first time I would’ve missed my period, since I missed it a few times when I was 13 when I had depression, but hadn’t told my bf since we weren’t doing anything sexual ( we were both very young after all ). My boyfriend knows I’ve missed periods before, and yet he’s still terrified that I’m pregnant - which, if I am, is no big deal, because I’ll be travelling to my home country in a month, where abortion is legal and the age of consent is low enough for it not to be questioned. We also use protection every time and nothing has ever leaked, from what I know.

Now keep in mind, my period is only 5 days late as of now. And my bf gets on call with me, and asks me ‘can I tell my mom that you might be pregnant?’. I simply say ‘No, I don’t want you telling your mom until I’m sure whether I’m pregnant or not’. Then his tone suddenly shifted, and he became pretty upset. When he asked me why, I said ‘well, my period being late or being skipped isn’t really your mom’s business. If I’m pregnant, then you can tell her, of course, but for now we better wait until we get more evidence and take a pregnancy test’. He kept pushing, asking me again and again why he couldn’t tell his mom, asking ‘but who can I tell this to?! Because I’m worried!’ So I told him ‘you don’t have to tell your mom every little worry you have, you know? You can tell me, or just, nobody. You have to learn to be independent.’ And he just got really, really mad and hung up on me.

Was what I said really bad? And am I being an asshole because I don’t want his mom knowing my period is late?
