Why is CSE still the most sought-after branch?

I am 2021-25 pass out from an avg pvt engineering college , when I joined there were 2 batches for each dept in the college(~120 students each).

During placements CSE were the lowest due to tech hiring freeze, many didn’t get placed, as even the mass recruiters skipped placements. Even other branches students managed to get into decent core jobs comparatively . Statistically speaking around 20 out of 120 people managed to find a software related job on-campus, even if it was support/service based role, a few more managed to find jobs via off campus, many are still struggling, while 25% are clearing backlogs, and will now compete with the 2026 pass outs as well.

Now I seen from the college ad that they currently have 240 seats for CSE, and 60 seats each for rest of departments . That’s 4 batches just for CS alone and they won’t open that much seats unless there’s strong demand for it. The students or parents don’t know that the college won’t care about them and are trying to milk the demand, which I am still surprised it exists. It’s hard to believe that the numbers are driven by genuine interest of the students. We don’t know the market situation in 4 years since we don’t know how AI will change things, And the small junior roles existing will be then met with insane competition due to this much flushing out of engineers from private colleges. Is this becoming the norm everywhere??
