here to remind you about my (audio) book club!

helloooooo 🌻

i (28F, not a lonely single dad) host an audiobook club monthly at the book cow in kingston

the idea of it being an audiobook club means that you don't need to read anything before hand, come and listen to a few chapters of Howls Moving Castle from 6pm and bring a craft along to work on while you listen!

it's a rlly nice, low energy, social interaction and a very cosy activity during these chilly winter months.

some things people have brought in the past include crochet, knitting, drawing, colouring, painting, collage, weaving, lino printing, hand sewing, quilting and even some chainmail! as long as it's a semi quiet activity, it's welcome 💞

it's on tomorrow night and we'll be starting at chapter 8 of Howls Moving Castle, here's more info and how to save a seat - it's a free event but we need to keep track of numbers as it's a small space. you're more than welcome to come alone or bring a friend!

because we listen to an audiobook there's also no pressure for social interaction but there is a bit of chatter before and after listening to the book.

if you have any questions feel free to comment or message me here or my insta is on the poster :~)

where to get old tech fixed?

i have some old devices that i would love to get fixed, i believe they both could be an issue with the charging port but unsure of where to go to get them looked at. i have a Nokia E63 phone and a Nintendo 2ds (same era as the 3d feature just without that capability)

i also have an old radio/cassette boombox that i think might be winding the cassettes at the wrong speed which causes the audio to sound like its wobbling, again, no idea where i could take it to get fixed, im assuming most record stores wouldn't deal with cassette as they never came back as hard as records have

how to get into this part of the vacuum head

I've had this vacuum cleaner for 4 years and LOVE it but it's had a build up of dog hair and now the cylinder part doesn't rotate. I'm a pretty practical person but cant figure out how im meant to get into this little gap to remove the hair and I refuse to pay $130 for a new vacuum head when I know that this will fix it 😡

its a samsung jet 70 pet vacuum and the turbo action brush. would love love love any ideas!

split tabi mittens! would you wanna see a pattern for these?

the only pattern/tutorial i was able to find for crochet split mittens was made flat and then sewn together which i started but didnt like, because i specifically wanted them to have a forward thumb, decreases in the palm, and to be worked in the round so i freehanded these and am pretty happy with them!

i'm adding ruffles on the wrists atm (second pic) and will make at least 1 more pair, to potentially write a bit of a pattern/tutorial for them which is something i've never done before. does anyone have any experience with pattern writing or any tips for the process?

white monster and sourpatch oreos loaf

didn't follow a recipe but i used:
104g active sourdough
500ml white monster
~550g plain flour
I also used the icing from inside a bunch of oreos and some salted butter to make a whipped butter (last pic)

once again, my housemate is away, i was bored, and there was no one here to stop me

same as my mtn dew loaf, you can hardly taste that it *isnt* water in the dough HOWEVER the oreo crème smells and tastes like that neon green citrus dish soap and deliciously has little sour crystals in it so you can absolutely taste that which is uhhhhhhhh interesting

the bread is maybe a 4/10 given the oreos are so nefarious..... the butter is genuinely inedible and potentially some kind of biohazard

open to suggestions for my next loaf though :)

editing to add
my manager suggested this combination immediately after i made the mtn dew sour worms loaf but i held off until now so really you should be thanking me
overall it's a good loaf with a tight crumb and where there isn't oreos there's a slight citrusy flavour

if anyone is better at food science than me can you tell me if the energy component of the monster would have baked off in cooking or is there still technically an energy component to it
