I can only imagine that it's erroneously storing cached data (like the photos on postcards) as user data??

I'd like to stay on 1.57 for various reasons, but I recently got super into playing in VR, and the only previous versions available for VR are 1.49 or whatever is directly before the current version (so 1.58 now that 1.59 is out). Is there any way to play 1.57 in VR now that 1.59 is out, or do I just have to update?
