Hi everyone! I'm starting my DBA in Strategy and Innovation at Capella this Monday, and I'm curious how many courses others were able to complete in one 12-week term.

For those who are currently enrolled or have already graduated, how many courses did you complete per term, and how long did it take you to finish the entire program?

I'm especially interested in hearing from anyone who completed the program in 2–3 terms.

I just need to vent because the tension and lack of support from my family is draining. I grew up being put in a box and made to feel small, even though I was a GATE/honors student. When my parents split right after high school, my mom told me she didn't have room for me in her new apartment, leaving me to figure out life entirely on my own.

I survived. I worked retail jobs, got my AA, managed stores for 7 years, and have held a stable office career for the last 14 years. I paid every single bill on my own.

Now, as a single mom to a toddler, I decided to completely elevate my life. I went back to school and went all the way: Bachelor's, MSML, and an MBA.

My family never expected me to get a Bachelor's, let alone two Master's degrees. The reality is that every single one of my siblings stopped at a Bachelor's degree—including my youngest brother, the golden child. Because I out-educated everyone despite having the hardest path, the fakeness and coldness from them is unreal.

The jealousy became incredibly obvious when I mentioned aiming for a DBA. My stepdad told me not to "waste my time." Then, my mom straight up told me not to get my doctorate—the exact milestone she has always wanted to achieve herself.

I’ve realized they don't want me to succeed because it ruins the narrative they built about me being the "lesser" sibling. I threw off the family hierarchy by achieving more than the golden child, and my own mother is actively discouraging me because she's projecting her own insecurities onto me. It hurts to realize that your major life accomplishments actually disappoint the people who are supposed to love you.

Is anyone else currently having issues with Capella financial aid taking longer than expected?

I was supposed to receive my financial aid disbursement last week, but it still hasn’t come through. I called Financial Aid and was told it should be coming this week.

The weird part is that my account keeps telling me I need to complete the Master Promissory Note. I’ve already completed and signed it twice, and each time it showed as received/completed. Now it’s showing up again saying it needs to be completed.

Has anyone else had this happen recently? If so, did your financial aid still end up being disbursed, and how long did it take?

For anyone who completed the Capella MBA FlexPath capstone, I have a question about the grading.

If you submit an assessment and the rubric comes back with a mix of Distinguished, Proficient, and a few Basic ratings, do you have to revise the assessment until every single rubric section is at least Proficient?

Or can you still pass the capstone with a few Basic ratings as long as the overall competencies for the course are Proficient?

I’m just trying to understand exactly how the capstone grading works. Thank you!

Has anyone taken a FlexPath course with Professor Luis Rivera at Capella? I’m curious about your experience with his grading.

I’ve been trying to earn Distinguished across all of my MBA courses, but I received Proficient on one competency in his course because one of the assessment criteria was rated Basic.

For anyone who was also aiming for all Distinguished, did you ever get a Proficient competency? If so, did you revise and resubmit the assessment to try to bring it up to Distinguished? Were you able to get the competency changed?

I’m debating whether I should resubmit and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had him or has been in a similar situation with FlexPath.

Has anyone doing FlexPath at Capella had their financial aid loan amount suddenly change after they had already selected and accepted a different amount?

My financial aid portal originally showed the amount I selected, but now it shows a much lower recommended/accepted loan amount and divides the disbursements across multiple payment periods. The portal still shows that I have additional borrowing eligibility available.

I’m planning to finish my program in one FlexPath billing session, so I’m confused about what happens to the loan funds that are scheduled for later payment periods if I graduate before those dates.

Has anyone experienced this? Did Capella explain why your loan amount changed? And if you finished your program in one billing session, what happened to the remaining scheduled financial aid?

I’m going to contact Financial Aid directly as well, but I’d love to hear from anyone who has gone through something similar.

Hi everyone! I’m considering the DBA program at Capella University and would love to hear from current students or recent graduates about their experience.

I have a few questions:

• Is the DBA fully online and asynchronous, or are there any required live Zoom meetings or classes?
• Does the program end with a dissertation, capstone, or another type of doctoral project?
• Do you have to complete a live defense or presentation in front of a committee, or can any presentations be recorded and submitted?
• Are there any live presentations, group projects, or projects where you have to work directly with an outside company or organization?
• For anyone doing the FlexPath option, how quickly have you realistically been able to complete courses?
• How difficult would you say the doctoral project/final portion of the program is?
• How supportive are the professors and faculty during the final doctoral project?
• Overall, would you recommend Capella’s DBA program?

I'm starting the MBA FlexPath program at Capella soon and have been researching the DBA FlexPath as a possible next step. I've read a few student reviews, but I'd love to hear from current students or recent graduates about your experience.

I have a few questions:

• Is the final capstone poster presentation prerecorded, or is it presented live?
• Is there a traditional dissertation defense, or is the capstone process different?
• Are you presenting to a committee, or do you upload your presentation and respond to questions afterward?
• What was the most challenging part of the capstone?

I also have a few questions about the coursework:

• Which courses were the most challenging?
• Which courses took you the longest to complete?
• Approximately how long did it take you to finish the DBA?
• If you accelerated, how many FlexPath billing sessions did it take?
• Do you have any tips or advice for someone hoping to accelerate through the program?

One last question: If you've completed the MBA FlexPath before starting the DBA FlexPath, were you offered any alumni discount, tuition discount, or other savings toward the DBA?

I'm starting the MBA FlexPath program at Capella on August 10. I recently completed my M.S. in Management and Leadership at WGU, and Capella accepted 12 transfer credits, which covered all of my electives.

My goal is to finish the remaining courses in one FlexPath term if possible. These are the courses I have left:

• MBA-FPX 5002 – MBA Leadership (starting Aug. 10)
• MBA-FPX 5006 – Business Strategy
• MBA-FPX 5012 – Marketing Management
• MBA-FPX 5008 – Applied Business Analytics
• MBA-FPX 5010 – Accounting Methods for Leaders
• MBA-FPX 5014 – Applied Managerial Finance
• MBA-FPX 5016 – Operations Management for Leaders
• MBA-FPX 5910 – MBA Capstone Experience

For those who have completed the program:

• Which courses took you the longest?
• Which ones were the easiest to get through?
• Are there any courses I should pair together or save for later?
• Do you think finishing these in one term is realistic?
