Lies / Incorrect facts told by kids

How do you handle lies?

I was yesterday at the library and a mom was explaining to her daughter that a 1 yo cannot read books yet. The girl said "I knew how to read when I was 1". I know kids do that and I also read that from age 4 they would say a lie every 2 hours (or something alike). But my brain was in pain.

My kid is 18 months now, and she doesn't speak yet. But I don't know what I would do when the lies start. I have big issues with people saying incoherent stuff, lying, or contradicting themselves.

EDIT: Thanks for your replies. I understand these may not be lies in the strict sense since there is not intention to mislead. Also understand that it is part of their development and a good practice for them. I am not looking for tips to correct and/or direct the behaviour of the kid, but how to moderate/control/change MY cognitive RESPONSE. What other autistic parents out there have found to help them? As I have said I have big issues with people saying incoherent stuff, lying, or contradicting themselves.

Dolls

  1. We are latinxs and my daughter is brown skinned. My MIL gave her a white skinned, blue eyes doll. Is there any evidence showing that is better to give kids dolls that look like them? She is 16 months old
  2. should dolls be anatomically accurate?
  3. I do toy rotation, but I was told that dolls should be always available. Is this true?

Picky eater - should I reduce breastfeeding

My 16 mo baby has never been the greatest eater, but lately she has became more and more selective. I can count with my fingers the foods she would happily eat (excluding snacks, frozen fruits, or any nut butter which she could eat forever), but sometimes she just wants yoghurt and smoothies. Before she ate more stuff, but now she would say no with her head, play with the food, or throw it away.

I continue breastfeeding on demand when I am with her (if I go to work she is ok without milk), whenever she wants and as much as she wants. If we are out and about she is usually happy without it — she would ask once or any time she is upset. But when we are at home, she could easily ask for it every 20 min.

My MIL recommended me to reduce breastfeeding because she said the baby may not be hungry and that is why she is rejecting solid foods.

I am overwhelmed. I am stressed that the baby is not getting enough nutrients from food nor the milk. But I am also super stressed of just thinking on weaning down the breastfeeding. I enjoy breastfeeding her most of the time (when she is not super clingy) and I am happy to use this "super power" to calm her down when she is upset.
