Public Hearing on the Closure of Christ Hospital, Hosted by the NJ Department of Health
I want to start by acknowledging something: Christ Hospital was not a well-run hospital. It has not been for years. That was on purpose.
The owners have always known that the land the hospital was built on was very valuable real estate, and current owner Hudson Regional Health took over Christ Hospital to purposefully run it further into the ground to justify tearing it down and building 2,000 units of luxury housing, as evidenced by their own submissions to the Jersey City Zoning Board.
Christ Hospital needs to not only be resurrected, but it needs to become a state or county-run public hospital. Please attend the hearing and demand the following: 1. Take the hospital out of HRH's hands by setting up a retainer to reopen and run the hospital temporarily, and 2. Use eminent domain to seize the hospital and run it as a public hospital, complete with updates and improvement it desperately needs.
