Little Fake Library

Little Fake Library

My nine year old and I love to find LFL’s when we go to neighboring towns, and frequently visit the ones in our own town as well. We have donated about 50 books to the community, but we also take books and my child gets very excited to get new books. We both have trouble giving up our books.

Yesterday we went to a LFL and lo and behold, a neighbor had set up a second one with no charter. We talked to the steward and told them how much we enjoyed their library. My kid ran to the next one, and as I am looking at the one with the charter, I hear, “Mommy, I can’t open it!!!” I went over to help him, and he started telling me all the cool books they had inside. Books he actually wanted to read. Roald Dahl, Beverly Cleary, Judy Blume….

I tried to open it and it was screwed shut. There was no way to access the books. Pretty sure someone got a good laugh at us struggling for a moment with this box.

In the car, my son asked why someone would do that? He really was excited to get some books he has been wanting to read. I also wanted to clean up that bottom shelf a little, because I like to organize the libraries when we get books. I joked that next time we visited, we would bring a screwdriver.

The most disappointing thing was how sad my son was at this fake out, but we found some other good books and a game at the next one, so it was quickly forgotten.

First Visit to Universal Since The 70s

My husband and I are taking our son to Universal Studios as a big surprise for his birthday. His dream is to visit Marioland (he thinks Marioland is a stand alone park), and he loves Minions. He is probably more into Universal kids movies than the Disney ones, because we have seen every Minion movie too many times to count, and Mario isn’t far behind that.
He also isn’t much of a thrill seeker, so we didn’t get an express pass for the rides, though we will need to get in line quick for Bowser’s Fury (which I understand is useless with the express pass anyway). I also already reserved a place at Toadstool Cafe for his birthday.

I understand he can get a button that shares it is his birthday at Guest Services, so people say Happy Birthday to him, which would be great since we are doing this instead of a birthday party.

Does anyone have additional tips to help make this the best possible birthday for him? Right now, what I have is:

-Get Mario bands at City Walk the night before.
-Arrive 30-60 minutes before opening.
-Reservation gotten for Toadstool Cafe.
-Possibly going to Minion land for birthday cupcakes.

The last time I was at Universal was in 1977 or 1978 when I was five years old, and I really just remember my dad lifting up a van while my mom and I watched, two people fighting with lights that I later learned was Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader from Star Wars. I held my dad tight because it scared me. 😂 I also remember a burning house, a flood, bending jail bars, and a house fire. Oh, and Jaws. Also held my dad tight for that one.

I’m sure it’s changed a lot so any sage wisdom would be appreciated. Also any insight as to going into Marioland an hour early. Would it be worth it? What happens if we don’t get there in time to use the pass? Do we just lose the money?

Bold Jumping Spider

The seek app identified this as a Bold Jumping Spider. I thought this group may appreciate my photos more than the arachnophobics I live with. 😂

The water droplets on it are due to making itself known while I was watering my plants. I have had a few of them in my house, but this is by far the biggest I have seen. (I love the eyes.)

Nooooo! My Lid!!!!

My Owala dropped out of the back of the car this evening and the lock/carrying handle broke. Any suggestions on fixing it? Has anyone fixed these before?

I looked on the Owala website and they don’t have the lid for Dreamy Fields anymore. 😢 Maybe 80’s Ski Slope would work? Would it even be worth contacting a human when AI said they may not have a match?

Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing

I remember reading Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing as a kid, but I just finished rereading the book to my 8 year old last night, and I must have totally trauma blocked the last chapter.

My kid loved the book but said, “I feel sad for Peter and Dribble.” He asked if we could read Superfudge starting tonight. (He could read it himself, but I read to him at night to help him relax.)

Lucky Duckies

My eight year old and I went by some eggheads today, and he found one of his favorite things, tiny rubber ducks, inside the mouths. I convinced him to leave some for any other kids that may show up.

If you set up some kind of commencement activity, I apologize. My very excited kid took six of your ducks. We did leave seven behind for “other kids” to find.

If it’s some kind of UC Davis thing, or even if it isn’t, I’m sure he will be on the hunt for tiny rubber duckies next time we are there.
