Vintage baby Tanu Tanu

About six months ago I saw this poor little thing in an antique mall and couldn’t afford him, well I went back today and nobody else could either I guess because he was still there lol! I finally bought him. I tried restoring him but he’s just in too poor a state so I’m currently sewing a new body and hair ♥️

Diagonal lines under bum update

Hi everyone! Photos compares yesterday’s post to now. I received lots of advice yesterday regarding helping reduce these lines under my bum.

Yesterday I tried fiddling with the balance of width taken from the front of the gusset vs the back and that did not help. I also tried easing the back leg inseam more generously along gusset to try to get that inlay detail to lay more parallel (but honestly I think I cut that detail crooked because it was an afterthought). Did not make much of a difference but it wasn’t worse so I did keep that change.

I then tried scooping the back crotch by 1/4” to see if that would better distribute the fabric. You can still see that adjustment in the righthand photo and I will be taking that basting out because now I have a wedgie lol.

Finally I gave up and tried just pinning out some excess fabric from the back outseam only and that seems to have done the trick. I’ll baste it in place but I have a feeling I’ll still be able to comfortably move bend and sit. So after lots of taking apart and putting it back together the same as it was, this is where we have landed.

Tips for diagonal lines under bum?

Hi all! Sorry for the kind of funny photos, the lighting in my apartment isn’t awesome. I’ve been working on the fit of these cosplay trousers for a month or so.

The base pattern is the Morden work pant by thread theory but I’ve modified the length and taper of the leg so much that at this point I don’t even know if it’s worthwhile to reference. These are made from a 4-way stretch spandex while the pattern suggests non-stretch, so sizing down to accommodate for all the stretch has been tricky for me. Please don’t ask me what I was thinking by using this pattern instead of something more straightforward and better suited to my fabric of choice lol! I think I had it in my head that I wanted something that looked functional and tactical.

Originally I had made my mockup in size 8 waist graded to size 10 body but they were massive, so for the final garment I went with a size 6 and omitted the grading (which I have had to put back in myself anyways lol). There is a crotch gusset that I have taken quite a bit of width out of already because I was getting a lot of wrinkles pointing to needing a flat seat and slim thigh adjustment.

I am happy with the fit of the front crotch and the seat, but I think I need to take in at least another 0.5” from the waist and sides along my hips? Is there anything else that can be done for the drag lines under my bum, or will taking in the excess from the outside and waist address it?

Spandex rippling

Hi all! I’m currently sewing what I guess can be described as a hero undersuit for a cosplay. It’s a pair of trousers and a shirt made from 4-way spandex that has a rubber applique pattern printed into it to mimic woven texture. I’m not a stranger to sewing stretch or spandex but thjs is an issue I haven’t encountered before: rippling. I didn’t experience any issues with rippling thru my mockup so I’m trying to pinpoint why this might be happening.

This costume consists of a lot of horizontal and vertical panels (very tactical looking) and in this specific area I am experiencing rippling when sewing with a 1/4” seam allowance and edge stitching for decoration. All my other seams are 3/8” using a lightning stitch and overlocked then top stitched (also with lightning stitch), is this a case of just needing to do the same treatment to this panel? I’m wondering if the overlocking and wider seam allowance is providing more support to my seams than I realized?
