Remembering when customers almost broke the mall entrance gate instead of using the already opened main entrance

This happened at my previous retail job, but I didn’t have reddit then to talk about it in real-time so I figured I’d talk about it now since I’m out of that toxic hellscape. I work at my mall, just in a newer store. My previous job was at another store in the same mall. My previous job was at one end of the mall so it has its own entrance and parking lot space.

The first time this happened, I was working upstairs at the registers. My coworker was bringing a project for me to do since it was early and I didn’t have customers. Something to note about my previous job, it opens an hour earlier than the rest of the mall. However the main mall doors are open for people to just walk around, mainly older folks who want to get their steps in.

Anyway! As part of the mall rules we have to keep our gates that lead into the mall closed and locked until the rest of mall opens. As my coworker was giving me my project, we heard our mall gate being banged on and someone trying to roughly pull it. I went over and saw an older woman yanking on the handle and somehow got it partially opened. We were both stunned because even though we are open, we aren’t allowed to have those gates open. the customer talked to us accusatorially that we “didn’t care about customers” Since we didn’t have it open. All This just to return a sweater by the way.

The second time was more recent. I wanna say a month and a half ago, before I put in my 2 weeks. This time it was our downstairs gates. Two older women were trying to get in through the mall entrance again, even though our main in-store entrance is open, they pulled on the gate so hard and they even were pulling on the sides rather than the handle, they full on BENT the bottom of the mall gate. I’m not exactly sure what happened afterwards, but since that’s more mall property than ours, I’m hoping they were scolded somehow.

It’s actually wild what customers will do for returns or to simply shop. All this when our main store entrance is completely open and free to use too.

meta glasses are making me scared of going outside

The fact meta glasses are a thing genuinely terrifies me. No one knows when they’re being recorded, if they don’t know they can’t consent to being filmed. I’m always terrified of being caught in a vulnerable state in public and being filmed. A friend of mine was literally filmed without his knowledge. The content of the video wasn’t malicious, but his friend messaged him saying a video was posted of him with a screen recording of the video and that’s how he found out he was being filmed at all. He feels sick and violated not even being given the knowledge and choice to consent for his face to be posted publicly.

Which makes me feel so anxious and way too alert to be outside and talk to anyone other than my friends and family. I struggle with social cues and always worry that if I were in a situation of being secretly filmed that I would be humiliated and I already stopped posting selfies or anything of my face due to generative AI. Meta glasses, generative AI, flock cameras, all of it stresses me out so bad and feeling afraid of going outside.

Angela Appreciation Post

Not sure which flair is more fitting so i’m using the main smosh flair, but this is an Angela appreciation post because i’ve seen 3 posts now talking down about Angela and it actually makes me upset. She’s an amazing cast member and always makes videos exciting especially with her quick wit when it comes to jokes. I get so excited seeing her in a video because her energy is contagious! I love Angela and all she brings to smosh!

Vizio Remote Won’t Connect to blu ray player

For reference, this picture is the type of Vizio remote I have. Perhaps I need to replace mine as the buttons images are slightly worn, but I wanted to see if there were any options before I do. I have a Samsung Blu Ray/DVD player and a Vizio remote specifically for the player. Typically everything is connected with no problems, but I just now wanted to watch a new Blu Ray I bought today and the remote won’t function. Well, not completely; I can still switch from cable to Blu Ray and change the volume, but that’s all it will do. I can’t select play/pause, fast forward/rewind. I changed the batteries and called customer service to which they just sent me a link of codes and said that’s all they could do for me. I’m not sure what buttons to press to set up before attempting the codes.

Where do y’all get your MJ merch?

I apologize if this isn’t appropriate to ask on this sub, but I’m just curious where y’all get your MJ shirts and merch? I always love fan-made merch and I’ll search etsy and unfortunately most look like they were scanned through egregious amount of AI. I just want some fun, cute, human-made art/collages of MJ on shirts to show off my love for him 😔

Bonding with my coworker over Michael!

At my new job I’m still getting used to and warming up to my new coworkers. One of them was wearing a shirt with the Dangerous cover art on it and we started talking about all his music and our favorite songs and albums. Of courseee we both agree Invincible is probably one of his best and most underrated album!!

I’m Proud of Michael

Michael always stood up for himself and others, that’s just fact, but when it came to Invincible I feel like he truly displayed how unafraid he was of Sony Devil Who Shall Not Be Named. Publicly calling out how racist, fraudulent, and abusive that man is. Idk, I just think about how much work he put into Invincible and the fact That Sony Devil put more effort to suppress sales. I’m just so proud of Michael and all the work he put into his career and who he was. I miss applehead so much :(

Who do y’all think this is about?

I know it’s hypocritical to ask, given the title and topic of the song, but I’ve always been slightly curious since I heard speculations this could’ve been about Princess Diana. Either way, it’s devastating lyrics and such a heartbreaking reality

My Former Employer Was So Bitter That She Ignored Me All Day On My Last Day At Work & Wanted My Managers To Do The Same.

Before I start, I know I’m not a special case and most bosses in retail see employees as expendable. Especially ones who give their 2 weeks notice. This is just to rant for the sake of ranting and to get this all out.

So I recently left my job for another. While the hours at my new job are less than I’m used to, it’s been amazing and solidified my choice to leave.

Ever since I gave my notice at my previous job, my (now former) boss pretended I didn’t exist for my remaining shifts. My last day especially. I greet her with a smile and a good morning, but I get no response. Just the most judgmental stare a person could possibly give. The only time she acknowledged me was when I was at the registers to start my shift and just tells me to push the store card.

I don’t take her coldness personally. She’s like this with a lot of my coworkers. She was especially bitter on my last day since I was one of multiple people leaving within the same two weeks.

On one of my breaks, my work friend told me she asked our boss if there was anything special planned to acknowledge my contributions and time at the company as we did that for everyone who also left. She said I deserved something since amongst the employees leaving, I was there the longest. My boss said no, which I’m a shy, quiet person so I didn’t really mind. However, I can’t hide that it stung a little when my friend explained our boss told the managers coming in to not do anything for me specifically.

I know how hypocritical it sounds to say nothing being planned doesn’t bother me, but then saying it stung a little. However it’s not about what was planned or not, but that my boss put the effort to specifically single me out essentially.

On the bright side, my best gifts were my managers and coworkers who showered me in love and acknowledgement anyway. They gave me plenty of hugs, said they appreciated everything I did for the company, and another work friend even crafted me a fabric heart with dried lavender in it. They made leaving emotional, but my former boss made my decision all the more confident.

I’m so proud of Smosh

I’ve been a fan of smosh since I was 12/13, for reference i’m 30 now. I’ve seen smosh grow from two friends creating fun sketches, to the OG smosh squad joining, to how it’s developed now. I’m just so proud of what Ian and Anthony created and the creativity that flows throughout the cast and crew. I hope everything that Smosh is continues to flourish and succeed 💜
