How to handwash vintage wedding dress?

Hi all,

I bought this wedding dress for $75 at a vintage shop. The seller said it is from the 70s but if anyone disagrees please say so! I’d love to know more about it.

I have a dress fitting tomorrow and need to clean it beforehand. I went to the local dry cleaners yesterday, but the two nice women there said with how much I would be charged to have it cleaned (at least $200) and the fact that they can’t guarantee it won’t be ruined, they recommended I clean it at home in my bathtub and hang it to dry.

I really don’t know what the fabric is. It feels silky but I don’t think it’s silk. I’m clearly not very familiar with vintage fabrics or fabrics in general.

Any recommendations for a specific soap or cleaner to use? Temperature of water? Hang to dry in the sun or indoors? Any advice would be very much appreciated!

DHG carpet infested with marimo moss ball algae

Made the grave mistake of putting dwarf hair grass in a tank with a rock covered in algae that came from a marimo. I actually knew this could be an issue but I had an idea in my head for how the scape would look and I was also very inpatient so as soon as the DHG came in the mail I put it in the tank. I have since taken out the rock. I’m letting the DHG cover the substrate before I even think of putting a new rock in (minus the algae of course)

Any magical ways of getting it out? Will I just forever be combing this grass as part of the tanks maintenance?

It’s a shrimp tank so I don’t want to vacuum it out or do anything that might hurt my shrimps :/

Help aquascaping around giant lace plant?

I have this empty 20 gallon that I was planning to do a Dutch inspired scape with, but this Madagascar lace plant was taking up too much space in my 40 gallon so I’m trying to figure out a simple scape with the lace plant at the center. Don’t know what else to do with it! Haha

I’m experimenting with making a “carpet” of alternanthera reineckii surrounding the lace plant, maybe with a row of the alternanthera reineckii growing tall along the back wall to hide the filter? I would have to trim the alternanthera reineckii “carpet” often, but if it looks good I’m fine with somewhat higher maintenance requirements

Anyone have any ideas for a better scape? The plants I have are in the second tank pictured (in bad need of a trim and organization, I’m still figuring that tank out. There’s probably a few that can’t be seen). Would any of the other plants I have look good? I also have jungle Val

I probably want to stay away from plants with smaller leaves to avoid those plants growing into the lace plant. But if you disagree please say so!

P.s. - I’ll be leveling the substrate and removing the pearlweed. In the early stages here

TYIA! I swear I’ll be making the 40 gallon look nicer soon
