"Catch Me If You Can"

says the Gold Bumper...

Seriously, I've never seen the Gold Bumper go so far ahead so fast! I even followed its path, skipping the dash plate because it went on the left side of the track. Spent 2 whole boosts just to get to it!

Tamiya MB-01 Mini Cooper FWD vs RWD Comparison on Indoor Carpet Track

Ever since I knew the MB-01 (and BT-01) could be configured in different ways, I had always wanted to do a comparison. This past weekend, I finally had the opportunity to take both my FWD (Red) and RWD (Blue) Mini Coopers (210mm short wheelbase) to my local indoor carpet track on a practice day for some testing and observations. For this experiment, I built both cars to the same (99%) spec, with a very similar FDR (65T/29T = 5.828) to the Tamiya USA TCS rules for M-07/M-08 at 20T pinion (5.776).

I've had the FWD for a lot longer and could never get it to handle great as it would always torque steer when coming out of corners if I applied the throttle even mildly hard. This time, the FWD has 60,000 wt. oil in its differential, but the key difference for me was really just being super gentle on applying throttle as I got more and more laps in. Of course, being so careful on the driving meant I cannot push the car at all. It might as well be suited for a casual weekend drive. Obviously, more work needs to be done on the FWD to solve this issue in the future...

In contrast, the relatively newly built RWD handled just like my M-08R does. Very nimble, no control issues whatsoever and I was most certainly pleasantly surprised! I could keep pace with some of the TT-02s on the track. Perhaps it might be able to enter a qualifier / race against the likes of the M-07's and M-08's next season...

I hope you enjoy what is as close to a "scientific experiment" as possible of the comparison between the two MB-01s, and if you also did some testing on your own, it would be interesting to compare experiences here in this thread.

Went TT-02 parking lot racing and spotted another 2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK AMG in the wild!

It's summer time, which means Fun in the Sun with Tamiya!

Went parking lot racing with my local group and we did 4 races of mostly TT-02's. Stoked to see another driver show up with the same Merc body as mine, so we both took a photo of the cars together. Also did a photo op with another friend's Lunch Box, so that was fun.

Here is 1 of the 4 races we did that day: https://youtu.be/IHpPcttyVRo

BTW, if anyone is in the San Francisco Bay Area, we meet once or twice a month at the Brisbane Marina. The Facebook group I joined that runs these events is called RC Super Trucks San Francisco.

Normally I just run Team Battles as a Fox / Bomber and race through the track, earning points while leading most of the laps, but sometimes at the end, you'll see smoking greys only accessible to those in 1st place.
