3D printed 1U thin-ITX Proxmox nodes

As part of my selfhosting/homelabing hobby I wanted some small form factor machines to use as Proxmox nodes. I couldn't find anything that quite worked for me, so I ended up building something myself, settled on this design around the ASUS Pro H610T D4-CSM thin-ITX motherboard.

I designed and 3D printed the 1U enclosure to fit the motherboard, a network card and an internal PSU.

Components:

  • ASUS Pro H610T D4-CSM motherboard
  • Intel Core i5-13500T
  • 32GB Kingston DDR4 SO-DIMM RAM
  • 2TB Kioxia Exceria Plus G4 NVMe SSD
  • Quad-port Gigabit Ethernet card with PCIe riser
  • Low-profile copper CPU heatsink (from AliExpress)
  • Arctic 40mm cooling fans
  • Mean Well LOP-300-18 PSU
  • ATX KVM board (for power control via PiKVM)

The enclosure is printed in Sunlu HS Matte PETG, with brass threaded inserts for assembly. Quite happy with how it turns out. Last picture is it in the rack with it's sibling, and my current 3U 3D printed NAS.

If you ever wondered if you can cut a cheap "solid core" down in to a smaller door, the answer is no, no you can't.

Unfortunately I am £65 down, so my "solution" was to glue dowels into the bits I need solid, and then glue a bit of timber to the edge, which has cost as nearly as much as the door itself!

Noticed the current streak feels a bit surface-level lately. Seems like they're tiptoeing around hard industry topics to keep things light. Just kind of feels less engaging lately, and I find myself not really paying much attention.

How to change Elgato 4K X EDID, software is end of life?

I've just purchased an Elgato 4K X and I am having a hard time getting it to do passthrough and capture of my ultrawide monitor, which the specs say it should do on the latest firmware.

I would like to try setting a custom EDID, and apparently I need to do this in the 4K Capture Utility app, but apparently that app is now end of life and no longer listed on the downloads section of the site.

I tried the Elgato Studio app, and while that shows the 4K X, I can't seem to configure it from that app.

Is it even possible to do this anymore, or have I purchased a defunct product that I should return?

Needed to do a "sidegrade" for my main workstation, moving to an ATX motherboard so that I can add additional memory sticks as well as run 2x GPUs for VFIO passthrough.

I really liked the isometric style panels Jakob uses on his builds, so I designed some that interlock so that they could be printed in sections and have the appearance of full sized case panels. I also designed some custom feet in the style of the C4-SFX, reusing a design idea I had for a NR200 mod where the IO and power button are in the front foot.

The vent holes are a little big, but I'm OK with that. After 6 years of using an A4-SFX, it's nice to have a build with decent cooling!

I had a realisation while building this case was that I will probably never buy another commercial case ever again. I can design and 3D print a case to my exact specifications, and it'll always be a fraction of the cost of a commercial case.
