The Pixel 8 Green Screen Extended Repair Program feels like a scam. They claimed unrelated issues that I never experienced and denied my claim.
About a month ago my Pixel 8 developed the green screen issue. This is what it looked like.
At first it happened just once, and after restarting the phone was back to normal, but it began to happen more frequently so I filled out the RMA form to send it in and get the screen replaced under the Extended Repair Program. Seemed pretty straightforward.
A day after the repair depot received it, I got a repair change order they needed me to confirm. Link
They claimed:
>Phone call problem
>Camera problem (front)
And wanted me to approve a $414.50+tax charge. My other option was for them to send it back, unrepaired.
I want to be clear - I never experienced any issues with phone calls or the selfie camera before sending it in. The phone operated as normal, with the exception of the green screen defect.
I chatted with Google Pixel support who said they would escalate this for review and told me to expect a reply within 24 hours via email.
Never heard back. I gave it three days, then chatted with them again.
This time, the agent said it was escalated to the wrong team, and that, for real this time, I'd get a response within 24 hours now that it was with the right team.
Three days later, when I had still received no response, I chatted again, and was told:
>We have completed the escalation review with the specialist team. Based on the inspection results, the Extended Repair Program coverage applies specifically to the known green line/screen display issue only.
During the diagnostic process, the repair depot identified additional issues involving the phone call function and the front camera. Since these issues are separate from the display defect covered under the Extended Repair Program, they are not eligible for no-cost repair under the program terms. As a result, the repair was converted to a paid repair estimate in the amount of $414.
We understand this is not the outcome you were hoping for, and we sincerely apologize for the frustration and inconvenience this situation has caused. We appreciate your patience throughout the escalation process.
So same line as the repair depot was giving me.
I asked for documentation of the issues and was told
>At the moment, we do not have the option to directly access or provide the diagnostic findings from the repair depot on our end. The available information regarding the detected issues is typically included in the email update or repair estimate that was sent to you by the repair team.
So they are sending my phone back, unrepaired.
I don't understand this. I did everything right. My IMEI qualifies for the ERP. I never experienced issues making or receiving phone calls, and never experienced issues with the front camera.
I feel completely dicked over by Google with how they handled this issue and don't really know where to go from here, aside from maybe filing a consumer complaint with my state's Attorney General's office.
Has anybody had any luck in getting a denied ERP claim overturned and approved?
Address issue - Is there a way to contact Spark directly instead of WM customer service? I think the driver's map may be wrong
Three times in a row now, on three different orders with three different drivers, my GMD orders have been delivered to my next door neighbor's house.
The first time, I though the driver just got confused. The 2nd time, I chatted with WM support and they suggested I add a note to the delivery notes and gave me a coupon for 10 off my next order. The third time, I chatted again, and the Walmart rep refunded my order and told me to "update my address" (what?). I don't think he did anything to address the underlying issue.
Is there a way to somehow check my address with Spark to see what their map looks like? In my Walmart app I've confirmed the address is showing above the right house on the map, and in the delivery notes I've been putting "I'm at 224 not 220" but so far nothing's working. I'm reticent to start negging the drivers on the delivery but not sure what else to do at this point. I look like a porch pirate every time I have to go get my package.
As my gran used to say, "Well isn't this some happy horseshit?"
Last month my Pixel 8 screen started glitching out. It would turn a sort of faded image with a green cast, sometimes there was green lines, or it would be solid green. Often if i turned the screen on and off enough I could get it to snap back and behave again. But it got worse and worse to the point it was happening a couple of times a day, so I confirmed the IMEI was eligible for a screen replacement under the Extended Repair Program and sent it in. I did capture photo and video evidence of the problem when it was happening.
They got it yesterday, and today I get a message to saying I need to approve changes to my order.
>Inspection Outcome:
>After inspecting your device, the initial estimate has changed. Review the increased amount below. You have not yet been charged.
>Detected issues
Phone call problem
Camera problem - front
My choices are to select "Continue with Repair for $414.50 + Tax" or "Return Device Unrepaired"
I don't know what type of issues they claim to be having with the selfie camera or the phone but I never had any noticeable issues with either. And what's more, what the hell does that have to do with my green screen issue?
When I searched reddit prior to sending it in I did see a thread with horror stories like this, but they were talking about how sketchy the Poland repair center is. I'm in the states.
Since my choices are to either pay more than the phone's used market value to repair problems that don't exist or send it back with no work done, is there an escalation path worth trying before I click either option?
I have plenty of evidence demonstrating the problem happening including some videos I shot of it with an iPhone 12 mini I had laying around.
