IDL People who can’t comprehend that not everyone can tolerate extreme heat
Seriously, it’s a hot as the Devil’s nutsack out there, and you think it’ll be fine to endure hours of sun and thermal abuse? Do you not sweat or feel pain?!

Hello fellow CFIs,
I have a potentially dumb question. I recently took on a student who began his training in 2010. At the time, he received his paper student pilot cert / 3rd class medical. Obviously, the medical is expired as of 2015. However, what about the paper student pilot cert?
He last flew in 2022, just once, but last flew consistently from 2010-2013. I am honestly embarrassed I don't know what the regs would be, here. Re-apply for a new plastic card? Or is this antique valid? Thanks!
Hey all,
I am in the market for a new laptop. I'd like something that I can use while sitting next to students for ground lessons, preferrably with a touch screen that I can draw on. I teach freelance at a few local airports without screens that I can project on.
I use an iPad mini for Foreflight, but feel it's too small as a screen to teach with. I was thinking something simple like a Chromebook (I use Google suite for everything, anyhow.) Thanks!
My loved one has been in recovery from an eating disorder and on food stamps in NY for a few years now. They work and are progressing well in recovery, and get the 80 hours needed for the new rules.
However, our local DSS made an error and had them listed as not working. After the initial phone call letting them know this, they sent paperwork to be filled out to show proof of work and income (they work a mix of W2, self-employed, and volunteer. My loved one filled out the paperwork last week, and has attempted to call the case manager every day since, only to leave a voicemail that will be unanswered.
We‘re trying to have patience, as I’m sure case managers across the US are inundated with the new rules in effect. However, I worry about food insecurity for my loved one at this time. They have ARFID, so it’s not like they can just eat any old thing a good bank will give.
I suppose the next step would be going to the DSS office in-person, but I wanted to ask here for advice as well. Perhaps if there were some medical form or process that could ensure their nutrition is not compromised (their pcp and medical team is always willing to do paperwork for them.) Thanks.
Early 30s M here, and I've begun to realize that a lot of friends I had are now fully in the marriage/kids/mortgage lifestyle. Wondering if there are any groups or other folks in a similar position to me looking for connection. Was thinking of trying out board game nights or something (I've seen them listed here now and then.) I could use some socialization within my age bracket (I work with much older folks.)
I feel like I see this everywhere now, it just feels overdone and kind of cookie-cutter. Examples are "Elegance by Kristin" or "Pure Body by Stephanie," etc. Like nails on a chalkboard to me, for some reason.
