Poem (?) from freshly restored Hamza Bey Mosque/Thessaloniki

This is a poem/votive from the beautifully restored Hamza Bey Mosque (also known as Alkazar) in Thessaloniki, Greece. Gemini did a nice job translating but Claude is not in agreement. Can you help ?

What was the position of Ottoman Greeks between 1830 and 1908 ?

On 1830 the new Greek state is born and many millions of Greeks find themselves outside the borders of the new state. During the next 80 years Greece keeps expanding through the Megali Idea, to the delight of the Greeks inside the Ottoman Empire.

I know the Ottoman Empire tried at some time during the late 19th century to foster an Ottoman national identity which didn't really succeed. On the other hand we have many Greeks of the Phanariote class still actively involved in state affairs, eg Karatheodori Pasha who was a top diplomat and minister of Foreign Affairs. Plus sometimes there are bits and pieces like Greeks of Thessaly cooperating with the Ottomans during the war of 1897, against Greece which present a different picture of simply _not-free_ Greeks

How did the Ottoman Empire view its Greek subjects ? As a potential fifth collumn ? As subjects to be protected from the allure of nationalism ? Were there objections about Greeks handling the interests of the Ottoman Empire dealing with Greece ?

I put the cuttof at 1908 with the Young Turk revolution because this introduced another layer of Turkish nationalism, false promises and was another beast altogether.

Thanks !

Quante linee avete nel vostro portfolio ?

Semplice domanda. In teoria.

Does Bogglehead philosophy extend beyone 60/40 equity/bonds?

While I appreciate Boglehead philosophy, (defined as x/x equity/bonds in low-fees index funds), I have been reading that the decorrelation between equity and bonds is probably broken for the intermediate future. And while I acknowledge that there is a recency bias, it is also not a reddit take but appears in most "serious" institution reports.

Could the Boglehead philosophy be described as holding equity plus decorrelated asset in low fees index funds ? And in that case change from bonds to another asset like a mix treasuries+MF incl.commodities ? Is that "Boglehead" ?

ps. It is not a contrarian post, I am just wondering how much bogglehead was a precursor to MPT and whether it is static or evolves.

edit-> I changed the 60/40 because my focus was not the exact percentage and I simply quoted the most known ratio. Still thanks for the answers!

How does one evaluate sensors being "better" ?

I just saw a post suggesting the 8 as having better sensors. And it got me thinking as how does one define better other than trusting what Samsung says. For example for the CPU or the display, there are some specs that one can evaluate; for the GPS we see the trail on the map.

When they mean "better sensors" what do they mean ? More accurate heartbeat recognition ? More accurate step counting ? And how do we know they are actually better ?

Which is the best resource to test an ucits portfolio?

Which is the best resource to test a ucits based portfolio ? I am talking about backtesting, assesing risk in risk parity model etc

I know which etfs I want to use but I have been having problems. The portfolio I want to test is factor based (JPGL+Avantis) plus diversifiers, (mf/natcat/carry etc).

Israeli professor chased in Greek university built on top of Jewish cemetery

The Jewish Cemetery of Thessaloniki was the biggest Jewish cemetery of all the world with tombs from the 2nd century AD until 1945. It was destroyed between 1942 and 1948 by the Greek state taking advantage of the murder of Jews. Never expropriated but simply stolen, it was used by the local Aristotle University to build its campus; after having collaborated with the German occupying authorities into looting it.

One can still find random vandalized Jewish tombstones through the campus. And only after 80 years Jews were allowed to pay for a small monument commemorating their dead still burried there.

On that University the Greek Christian students do not protest against the wrong of 80 years ago. They do not protest against the injustice of today, thanks to which they are beneficiaries to free education. They protest against an Israeli - not even Israeli born but refugee to Israel - professor visiting.

Greece. The only country that decolonization concerns anyone else but themselves.

Tassi Treasuries e NTSG
