Why do people complain about what to do with old IDE HDD's

Just the right size for clamping a shard that broke off the trim. IC on the motherboard provides a grippy surface doe the clamp, and the side facing the timber being glued is flat and strong.

Why is Telstra moving all Small business to Prepaid plans and not other business sectors

Can anyone answer why is Telstra moving all Small business to Prepaid plans and not other business sectors. I have called the number in the notification emails/letters and am getting what equates to spin. Can someone answer this factually, and is the Minister for Small Business, Minister for International Development, Minister for Multicultural Affairs aware or the Minister for Communications.

Has anyone used Musselbound tiling mat

No Budget, Hunter Valley

I saw a comment online about a product called "Musselbound tiling mat" available in the US. Has anyone on here used this product here in Oz and if so what are your opinions of it - ease of use, longevity, cost, removal of tiles later on walls where this was used.

Guidance on new tile style while old tiles remain

Budget = N/a

State NSW

Crime Scene photo above

How do you renovators go about choosing replacement finishes that don't look out of place in an older home?

A sequence of annoying events has led to us needing to replace the splashback tiles in our laundry. The house is from the 1980s and the laundry also contains a toilet and shower recess.

The existing wall tiles throughout the room are gloss white 200 x 200 mm tiles with a grey stripe. The floor is tiled with plain grey 200 x 200 mm tiles that closely match the grey stripe in the wall tiles. I guess it probably doesn't need saying they no longer exist and we have one spare tile I'm reserving for a "kickboard row" cracked tile.

I only want to replace the laundry splashback tiles, not retile the entire room.

My concern is that modern tiles may look obviously "new" and clash with the existing 1980s tiles. How do you approach situations like this? Do you try to match the existing style as closely as possible, deliberately choose a contrasting feature, or use some other design approach?

What is your magic formula here?

Paint tins rusting in just under 4 months - Rant at PPG Coatings

I am stunned how bad the quality is of the tins paint is sold within by PPG. I have, as the title suggests, 4 tins of paint, opened at different times since purchase over the last 4-6 months. All are rusting around the lid. Every time you re-open the can rust drops into the tin and contaminates the paint, Come on PPG you produce/package this product, surely you can find quality tins somewhere. I have tins in an outdoor lawn locker bought when we painted the house after purchase - 1997, that are in mint condition compared to these you supply now.

Leaving van at dealership

Next week our van goes in for warranty work at the dealership. Would it be advisable to remove the contents of lockers, cupboards etc before taking the van to the service centre? If so how far do you go?

I dont know .... DIY and and really knowing the guy doing the work

One of the challenges of DIY is having complete access to the "builder's" employment history, including all a very detailed list of previous phoo pahs. Unfortunately, the builder is me. 😞

Inverell routes via New England Hwy.

Looking at taking a run up the New England Hwy to Inverell. Options to get there are:

  • Tamworth <> Baraba <> Inverell
  • Tamworth <> Bendemeer <> Inverell
  • Tamworth <> Uralla <> Inverell
  • Tamworth <> Glenn Innes <> Inverell.

Most of these I have travelled pre Covid on a bike but not towed a van. Does anyone in the forum know what the conditions are like to tow a 20' van on any of these, specifically ones to avoid.

Yes I know I might be a wuss but just not a fan of shaking the bejesus out of the van for the sake of a bit of scenery.

Reports SSD is overheating taken offline

Every so often I get a notification that one of the SSD's in my Host is overheating. The odd thing is that the smart stats for the drive say all is ok, Dell Daigs agree that there is no issue with the drive overheating. It gets to the point the Host takes the drive offline.

>This message was generated by the smartd daemon running on:

>host name:  XXXXXXXXXX

> The following warning/error was logged by the smartd daemon:

> Device: /dev/sda [SAT], Failed SMART usage Attribute: 190 Airflow_Temperature_Cel.

> For details see host's SYSLOG.

> You can also use the smartctl utility for further investigation.

>The original message about this issue was sent at Sun Nov 24 14:11:00 2024 AEDT Another message will be sent in 24 hours if the problem persists.

Syslog reports the same error - it sees there is a problem.

Any suggestions where to poke next?
