Copped my first 4x4

All my life I've owned petrol sedans/sporty cars, never owned a 4WD or a diesel car in my life before. I made a couple posts asking for advice on what's good out there. I was pretty keen on the D22 Navaras as they looked sick, simple and sturdy trucks.

A lot of people did tell me to stay away from them and go for others (as did some say the inverse) and while I looked around rigorously, in the end I did end up buying a D22 on a good deal and honestly, I'm so happy with it.

It drives so nicely with strong and smooth gearbox with a heavy-duty clutch. Had my mechanic look it over and says it's pretty mick. Also came with some tasty mods (suspension & body lift, exhaust, tub rack with the rooftop tent, UHF radio and GPS speedo to name some). To top it all off my misso thinks I look sexy driving a 4WD stick so that always help 😉.

From a Toyota Crown to a Navara, all-in-all I'm so happy with the cop, and look forward to some 4WD adventures in the great outdoors (first one this weekend up to pinnacles/Lancelin).

ADVICE

G'day everyone, I am looking at buy a 4x4 SUV in the next 3 to 4 years. My savings goal (or budget) is $20k to $40k, I would like a used vehicle 2017 to 2022 (very flexible). I currently have my eyes on the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport or (just) Pajero, Isuzu MUX and Toyota Prado. I am looking for a second opinion on whether purchasing a top trim used Pajero Sport is worth getting or are there better 4x4 SUV vehicles I should consider

. I do like the Pajero Sport and I am aware of its issues regards to DPF and etc. I am curious on how capable it is in off-roading and I want to do a Sydney to Cape York trip one day and I'm curious if this rig is capable for that trip.

Exhaust upgrade

I’ve bought an mq triton around Christmas time last year, and it hasn’t had many upgrades. I’m thinking about upgrading the exhaust from 2 inch to 3 inch, is there any brands people recommend or if I should do anything else before hand?

Best 4x4 Option

I’ve recently moved to the NT and I’m looking to get a 4WD up here. My current car isn’t with me, so I’m considering buying a new vehicle. I’m pretty new to 4WDs and mainly want something for camping and fishing trips and light to moderate 4wd, nothing too crazy.

I’ve been looking at a few options like the Suzuki Jimny, Toyota Hilux, and Toyota Prado. The 5-door Jimny is appealing because I could buy it new, and with a lift, bull bar, and roof rack it would come to around $48–50k. The Hilux and Prado would likely need to be second-hand, and prices up here seem pretty steep.
Thanks for the help

Canopy layout question

Most people put their fridge (upright or chest) on the passenger side at the front of their canopy for ease of use under and awning, and also weight reasons. Keep the weight as far forward as you can over the axle.
Fridges are roughly 20-30kg for an upright. Most Chests weigh more. 60L Engel is 38kg for example.
But then they go and put a kitchen and pantry along side the fridge.
Kitchens are anywhere from 30-60kg and then a pantry is 13-30kg. They weigh more than a fridge.

So Shouldn’t they be at the front instead?

I’m trying to plan mine out and it just seems like everyone puts their fridge at the front just because that’s the way it’s always done.

Thoughts?

Rust or corresion

Hi,

I have a 2015 Prado 1KD, and the mechanic’s report mentioned “surface rust.” I’m thinking about doing basic rustproofing to protect it.

Could you please let me know if this is serious rust, or is it just normal surface corrosion? Do I need to worry about it?

Many thanks,

First 4wd

Hey folks.

Picking up my first car in Australia since arriving last year this Thursday. Getting a 1997 Land Cruiser Prado, in perfect nick and really looking forward to working it up to being a car I could do some of the west coast in.

Since this is a new ballgame to me, just thought I’d ask for any tips etc. when it comes to this sort of thing when starting out. Cheers 👍🏻

Best gen dual cabs under 26k?

Hey all, im currently looking for a daily driver 4wd dual cab ute. Originally looking at SR5 Hiluxes in manual in VIC. However options are limited espeically for manuals and prices are a bit up there even when they're rooted.

Been looking at Dmax's and BT50's but do love Hiluxes/toyotas.

What are some good options for manual dual cabs sub 26K? Plan to use it as daily driver and some weekend 4wd here and there with mates.

im after a suspension upgrade and bull bar for my 4x4 to handle tougher tracks without issues and ive been checking different spots for quality gear that fits australian conditions.

i found some nice suspension kits and bull bars online that look tbh pretty good for what i need so wondering where others get their parts from and if there are better options for specific brands or fast shipping.

What car would you Buy And Why. 2uz 200 vs fte 100 series

Image for attention.

Always wanted a 200 series but just can't afford all the problems that come along with the diesel one. I love my petrol cars just as much as my diesel and not really worried about fuel economy. Were I live in can get a 2uz with 300,000ks for around the 20 to 25k mark and a fte for around 30 to 35k mark with 300,000ks.

My question is what what you chose for touring and comfortably?

I've been in a 105 for an 8hr drive and will admit there pretty dam nice to sit in but look fairly shit on the outside is the 200 series much comfier?

The way im looking at it is

200 cheaper buy price bit more on rego and fuel but a fair bit more money left over for mods and has power stock.

Fte seems abit sluggish from factory so gonna have to spend money on a tune or bigger turbo and all the stuff that comes along with it. But cheaper fuel and rego. Yes it's gods motor but arguably the 2uz is the petrol gods motor

Bugger the price of Diesel I’m going camping!

I feel like having the gear and not using it is more wasteful than blowing a few grand on diesel. Am I right or wrong? Either way I’m using this year’s 4 weeks annual leave for exploring the out back in rare conditions. First rare find is a Sudell’s frog.

Thoughts on a 1KZ with a cracked head?

Currently in the market, found a pretty sweet 96 LC, 330k kms, lot of maintenance and parts replaced, enoigh to leave me only some things to do but I'm happy to do them and putely preventative, the main issue is, the mechanics notes mentioned, the car came in pressurized cooling system, had a cracked head and coolant was leaking into cylnd 3, the head and relative parts were replaced. Seems like it's done about 8000kms since this.

Would this be an issue for longevity of the engine/short block? I'll upload a pic of the repair sheet notes.
