Copying annotations from one PDF to another

I often make notes on scores that then have to be replaced or updated with new PDFs due to corrections/changes in the underlying music. Is there a way to copy the annotation layer from the old PDF to the new? I realize some annotations might need to be moved/updated due to spacing/layout changes, etc., but it would really help to know that notes I make on an early version of a score won't be wasted (or have to be manually re-done) when I get the next update.

Red Sox broadcasters on Jahmai Jones

Just now in the top of the 11th of the BOS @ MIA game:

>Now here's Jahmai Jones. He’s got a 5 game hitting streak; he’s 8 for his last 11. This is a guy who with Detroit was hitting .154 against lefties. That’s what his role was, he wasn’t getting it done, the Red Sox acquire him, and he’s 11 for 20, he’s hitting .550 against ‘em as a member of the Red Sox.

Are these “No Riding” standees new?

I admit to being remarkably unobservant at times, so I may have walked past a few of these for months now and never noticed. But I was pleased to see this reminder to bike/scooter/skateboard riders that the sidewalks are exclusively for pedestrians (and wheelchairs, of course).

Now let’s hope someone’s actually out there enforcing it.

Adding trial users to a paid plan (with AWS Marketplace billing)

I work for an academic institution that has a standard plan billed at the academic rate through AWS Marketplace. We had to have a sales rep set up the Marketplace offer for us, since it's a discount plan. I have a few other users interested in joining our Tailnet on a trial basis to see how it works for them, so I'm not ready to commit to additional paid users yet, but I would like to be able to invite them to try it out. Is this possible, or do we have to add them as paid users for one billing cycle in order to get them registered?

Question for those who attended both opening weekend games

My daughter and I were at the opener on Saturday, and I have some questions for those who were at both games. I realize that there were a whole lot of issues on Saturday – weather, crowd size, first game logistics to shake out, field prep, and a big Opening Ceremony. What I'm wondering is, how did Sunday compare in terms of:

  • efficiency of getting people inside (esp. the bag check)
  • concessions (main stand line was interminable, right field stand was popcorn & beverage only on Saturday, and they ran out of popcorn multiple times)
  • merch (again, super long lines, scarcity of some items)
  • women's bathroom line (my daughter held out because she didn't want to miss two whole innings waiting)
  • men's bathroom cleanliness (I'm generally not squeamish but it was nasty in there)
  • general crowd flow/control

A friend is heading to one of the games this weekend and has asked me for some pointers, so I'm just curious whether anything got markedly better between games 1 & 2.

Scoring question about the first game

I'm curious why the none of the three dropped fly balls (one foul, two in the outfield) in the top of the 7th weren't scored as errors. Any one of the three, if caught, would have ended the game, so the result was several earned runs attributed to Jacqui Reynolds that would otherwise be scored as unearned. I recognize that the foul ball was probably an extraordinary-effort play, so not an error. But the subsequent popups to right and center looked catchable, even if the rain and the lights made things a little tougher than usual.

In the end, whether those were errors or not has no effect the W/L outcome. But as a minor stats nerd, I hate to see a pitcher start the season with a 20.25 ERA when it should probably be closer to 6.75 or 10.125. (I wasn't scoring myself because of the rain, so I may be misremebering whether one of those runs came before or after the first outfield drop.)

I'm willing to accept “Night Game + Lights + Rain = Nothing is a Routine Catch” but I just want to check in (and also draw out any other statheads in the sub).

Anyone interested in meeting up at the Commanders @ Lions preseason game on 8/22?

Hey all! I'm an out-of-town Lions fan who is going to be in Detroit from 8/21-23. I just glanced at TicketMaster (yeah, I know, I hate 'em too) and noticed that there are a bunch of tix available for the Commanders @ Lions game on Saturday 8/22 at noon. Anyone interested in either (a) coordinating our ticket purchases and snagging seats together, or (b) even just meeting up for a “hey, nice to meet you, I'm from the Internet” before the game? Ticket prices are all over the place. I don't need awesome seats; I was looking at stuff in the $60-90 range.

I'm not really a beer guy, so I'm not going to be anyone's best drinking buddy, but I do stand up and cheer a lot.

Looking for an auto salvage yard to sell a car to

I hope this doesn't count as a prohibited “classified” type post. Since there's a “Business Recommendations” flair, it seemed OK.

I've got a totaled car that insurance is likely not going to cover, and I'm going to be looking to sell it for salvage. Any recommendations for specific places to call would be greatly appreciated. Hoping to find someone fair, easy to do business with, and who will haul it away from a North Shore residential driveway.

NY Times Wirecutter awards Steam Deck “Best Handheld Gaming PC”

I think their caveats about the Deck being “limited to Steam titles” is a little overblown, especially in the face of calling the Switch 2 the “Most Flexible Gaming Console.” And it's not like I welcome the level of mainstream press that's going to make the Deck (and accessories/replacement parts) even scarcer. But it's nice to have one of my favorite things recognized.

The Carryx clearly have the advantage in strength, numbers and status, but on an individual level, they’re no better off than any of the creatures they’ve subjugated. Fail to do the job the Sovran requires of you? Killed. Challenge a superior and lose? Best case, you get an arm broken. No real choice about your position, status, job, working conditions, resources, or constraints. The will of the Sovran dictates everything you and those around you do or will do. I suspect if a particular Carryx was found to require more resources than justified by their productivity, they’d be culled. You’re not going to influence policy, make requests of those above you, or change your circumstances without overpowering someone above you.

So Ekur-Tklal’s reaction to Dafyd’s “non-request” about the Soft Lothark isn’t surprising. He’s being hint-asked something he himself would never _dare_ ask of the Carryx above him.

I fell asleep somewhere in the middle of a chapter, and thought I had gone back far enough to catch up on what I missed. But apparently I was in and out enough to be aware of some things, unaware of others, and then aware of other stuff after that. And what I missed, I believe, might have been a really major moment. So I'd appreciate some help figuring out where to go back to, but without too many spoilers as to what I'm going to find there (or afterward). Thanks in advance for assisting me with this Very Dumb Endeavor.

Here are the basics of what I know, what I don't, and how far I've gotten since.

The last thing where I know for sure that I have no gaps preceding it is Jessyn being interrogated about her wound while she's trying to restart the colony of bacteria that provides her Sanity Juice. And I remember her revisiting her camp and deciding it would be best not to try to take the gun or the cylinder back to base for a bit.

I know what's been going on back in the World Palace with the human moiety falling behind on their work, the swarm remaking itself into a whole new person, Dafyd's union troubles, his conversations with the Deep Lothark, etc.

I know what's happened to Rickar, Campar, Ghati, and Vaudai, including Rickar's death (and encounter with the “cyst”) and the others' encounter with the remnants of a livesuit.

I have now reached Chapter 33, where Jessyn and the others have just come back to the World Palace via assymetric space.

But the crucial thing I seem to have missed was Jessyn actually retrieving the cylinder and deploying its contents. (I know, right? I have no idea how I managed to miss that, continue on, and not realize I'd missed it.)

Please help.
