How long before I can expect a response to a written query?

I had a query relating to income recognition on my self assessment for 2024/2025. I contacted HMRC via phone in April, the guy couldn't answer initially so escalated to team leader who then escalated to the technical adviser (can't remember their title exactly). Their response was to put my query in writing and they would then give me an official response either way.

So I sent them a letter, which I can see in the HMRC app was received and is "In progress".

It's been 2 months now, my SA is well and truly overdue and with £10 daily fines racking up I'm probably going to be paying more in fines than I actually earned in income.

Frustratingly, I believe I have definitively resolved the query myself after reading deeper into the T&C small print on the site I have earned the income.

But the HMRC guy on the phone told me explicitly to not complete the SA form until the query was resolved and I had an answer in writing.

How much longer should I expect to wait for a response? I've tried the "Check when you can expect a reply from HMRC" on their website and it just tells me to login to my personal tax account, which I do, which then sends me back to the exact same wizard which then sends me to my personal tax account...

abandoned duckling

I saw this duckling the other day, at first I thought it was trolling the swans so I stopped and watched. The swans didn't seem to care much and swam off.

The duckling continued chirping and swimming in tight circles. I thought maybe it only had 1 leg but I could just about make out it did have 2.

The mother duck didn't seem to care and was swimming further away until I remembered I had some duck food in my bag so I tempted her back towards the duckling. As soon as she and the the other ducklings got near the lone duckling darted straight towards them in a perfectly straight line so it can definitely swim ok.

The mother then carried on with the ducklings in tow, except for the lone one who got left behind again.

I came back later and it was still in the same area going around in circles with the mother just a bit further up.

Poor little dude :(

I wondered if perhaps it was blind or had bad eyesight since it seemed it could only see (or hear?) if they were close by, but quickly got left behind.

Why is Bambu Studio so buggy?

Multiple times a day Bambu Studio completely locks up with the only way to resolve it is to kill the process.

Things that cause it to lock up:

  • trying to view the camera of any printer
  • switching between printers on the Device tab
  • Trying to send print job (see attached image)

Re: the last one, wtf even is the green message about? As you can see, the dialog is messed up, buttons/options missing. It's not possible to cancel anything, that's it, Bambu Studio is completely locked up at this point. If i'm really lucky it will completely lock up the entire laptop, can't clicking anything, alt+tab doesn't respond, keyboard doesn't respond, mouse moves but the screen is frozen. Only way out is to reboot, or sometimes a keyboard shortcut I created to kill Bambu Studio works. The laptop is absolutely rock solid when running anything else, so this is 100% Bambu Studio.

Things I've tried to do to resolve:

  • Upgrade to latest version or reinstall
  • Log out / log in
  • Try deb, appimage or flatpak (on Linux btw)

These all tend to resolve it, kind of, because so does closing Bambu Studio and reopening it, so not sure if any of the above solutions actually achieve anything as ultimately it just happens again on the new version.

A similar thing happens on my Macbook too, BS constantly becomes laggy and unresponsive requiring killing of the process.

Anyone tried Orca Slicer with Bambu Cloud support or does that still suffer from the same issues? (The common denominator between all crashes is they happen when interacting/fetching data from the cloud so I assume the same could apply to Orca?)

Anyone appealed/corrected a copyright takedown?

One of my models got taken down by Mattel due to copyright infringement. The thing is it's entirely my own design, not even based on any of their toys or brands at all.

It was uploaded 2 years ago so I can't remember exactly, but I suspect I may have added one of their brand names as a keyword. Since it's taken down I can no longer access the model to check, but there's definitely no issue with the title or images so has to be the keywords.

Has anyone had any success with appealing Makerworld to allow access to the model to remove any infringing keywords?

I'm fairly certain I can reupload without the keyword, but the model has done really well (linked in youtube videos, tiktoks etc) so would rather keep the existing model/url online if at all possible.
