Nannies

Anyone had recent success hiring a nanny in the FW area? What apps/sites did you use? Is there an agency?

I believe we are offering competitive pay, but curious if anyone who employs a nanny here would share their compensation package (just moved here from Boston)

Thanks !!

Sleep Paralysis, then psychosis

Ok so bare with me, this is just curiosity.

In July of 2024 I began experiencing pretty severe sleep paralysis, multiple times a week, lasting hours on end (waking myself up from the episode, checking time, then falling back into it repeatedly.) I would hear voices, see figures, and feel paralyzed (common themes were that my house was being broken into or on fire while in sleep paralysis).

February of 2025 I had an acute psychotic episode. I began having delusions that lasted about a week, and auditory hallucinations/hearing voices that lasted a long time before being stabilized on my 3rd medication. I can still hear voices when my meds wear off. I’ve also experienced sleep paralysis while in the psychotic episode. I’m not schizophrenic— I have MDD w/ psychotic features. Anyways,

My psych prescribed prazocin for the sleep paralysis and it works really well for the most part.
I guess the general question is, while I doubt the sleep paralysis and psychosis are directly correlated (other than by maybe stress), has anyone else had this happen to them?

TIA

Weird way to get in trouble

A few years ago, I was a nanny for two doctors. They had a 3.5yo and infant. On my second week, MB decided it was time to potty train 3.5yo. Her method was to go no diaper/underwear or pants, and prompt 3.5yo to use the potty every 30 min.

I was fine with this (didn’t have a choice tho), but since it was my second week, 3.5yo did not want to listen to me, there was no bond yet. After 3.5yo would poop in the potty, I would try to wipe them and they would run onto the couch with an un-wiped bottom. I explained to MB that I was having trouble with this aspect, and she decided DB’s mom would come to “help”. Nice idea in theory, but grandma treated me very rudely, and acted like I didn’t know anything about children.

So that’s the background, let me get to the crazy parts. They had cameras all over the house. I was in the basement playroom with the kids, and the 3.5yo put a blanket over her bottom because she was cold. MB immediately texted me to take the blanket off of her because she needs to have no bottoms on. Later, she was wearing a tutu. She wanted to play dress up. Again, MB immediately texts me that this is unacceptable and she cannot wear that while potty training. She came home to scold me that I “made her have to watch me” and she can’t do that anymore because she has surgeries and patients and she had to watch me during surgery. Okay, whatever, kinda get a feeling this isn’t going to work on based on her tone.

Finally, the next day, at nap time, I prompt 3.5yo to go potty before. There is a baby monitor but the room is dark. Imagine my shock when I go up to get her from nap, and she had pooped and smeared it all over the walls. I just could not. Again, reprimanded for that. I quit shortly thereafter. Is it just me or was this wack 😭

Quitting.. for the second time

Hi guys. I quit vaping cold turkey in May of 2024, and went successfully without any nicotine until July of 2025, when I was in psychosis and hit a friends vape (boom, instantly started to constantly crave nicotine). Then I bought my own vape, which leads us to June 30th, 2026 (aka today lol).

I’ve been off work for a month due to surgery, and told myself before that I was going to quit before I go back to work. It’s almost time to go back to work.. still haven’t quit.

I guess I’m just looking for motivation, tips, anything. I’m going cold turkey again; reading Allen Carr’s easy way helped me the last time and I kinda refreshed myself on main takeaways from this sub. I’m nervous, scared, anxious about it. I actually lost my vape in my house somewhere tonight which made me think, dang, why am I so stressed looking high and low for a damn vape. Ugh.

Didn’t get the job

How do you deal with disappointment when you don’t get a job you were really hoping for? The market sucks in my area, and I had finally found a position with benefits and pay on the books. They offered the position to someone with more experience ( I have 4, hard to compete with 20), which is understandable, but disappointing because finding a job is worse than a needle in a haystack here. I’ve tried Care, word of mouth, Sittercity, and FB groups for over a YEAR. I’m so sad because I’m just getting deeper into debt, and my mental health is suffering.

Interviewing a nanny

Hi, I posted in Nanny subreddit but I’m curious to have employers responses as well.

I am interviewing for a position with twin baby boys. We had our initial interview over Zoom and I felt that we covered a lot and it went well. They want to do a second interview, and I’m so worried I’ll bomb the interview! So my questions are, what makes a nanny stand out above other nannies in an interview? What questions do you like to ask nannies? What do you like to hear specifically from nannies while they’re interviewing? Thank you all so much in advance!

I saw a post on /nanny from someone asking if they should disclose that they had schizophrenia to their bosses. My stance is absolutely. But where do we draw the line?

I personally had acute psychosis - not diagnosed as schizophrenia type because it did not meet the criteria. I have not had any “relapses” since and take medication to be safe. My psychiatrist is confident I am OK to work around children. But I do not tell parents this, because in my case, I feel it was a “one time thing” (at least I hope). But would you want to know if your nanny had this in the past?

What about depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, ADHD etc? I feel like as long as the diagnoses do not hinder the nanny’s ability to be a good, safe nanny, employers do not need to know. But I’m curious on standpoints from actual nanny employers.
