Is the SM7B an upgrade over a Beta 57A for vocals?

I have a beta 57A that I got because it was cheap and could handle scream vocals + be used for live performances. At the time, I had a condenser that I used for all other vox. Long story short, now that I only use the Beta 57A, I’m wondering if the SM7B would be an upgrade.

The 57A is not a terrible mic for my voice, but I feel like the 7B may capture the low end better, and also have more tame high-end. I usually don’t need to boost the highs when using the 57A for my vocal because it is so bright, and often the sibilance is quite harsh, but that’s probably just because of my mouth/lack of technique. Also, two of my favorite artists and biggest inspirations use/used the 7B (EDEN and Brackence).

Of course, based on price, it should definitely be better. But I just don’t want to buy it and feel like it made not much difference ya know? Thanks to you all.

Side question: I have a Behringer Uphoria, 4 line preamp. Considering how cheap it is, I feel like the answer is probably yes, but regardless, I’m wondering if I would need the cloudlifter with it?

Two versions of The Whorror?

When I had apple music I listened to “She Never Made it to the Emergency Room” and “We Put the Fun in Funeral” all the time. I switched to spotify last year and hadn’t heard it in a while, so I looked it up on youtube. My god, the versions that came up were way shittier. I assume they were some DIY demos, but it got me thinking.

Does anyone know the history/timeline of the EP, when it was recorded, how it was recorded, re-recorded, released, re-released etc? Because I read somewhere that all of the songs from The Whorror were re-recorded to be combined with the tracks from When Love Met Destruction but then they scrapped it. Then, on Wikipedia it says just two of them were. Anyways, just something I think would be interesting to hear about!

Also, what started this is my new found obsession with rare CD presses of their old EPs. There’s a few copies of The Whorror on eBay for around $900-$1000. That’s out of my reach. But I’m dying for a copy of WLMD as it’s my favorite of their projects...

Are you concerned about the future of Optometry?

Last night I was having a drink with my dad (who is an MD) and he expressed his concern for the future of optometry. With AI and online/self service options becoming more advanced and even implemented in other countries, I wanted to get your opinions. I know in the U.S. there is legislation that requires prescriptions to be made by an OD (and other doctors too i assume. maybe just ophthalmologists? idk).

I’ve never had an eye exam and I haven’t shadowed yet so my understanding of the scope of cases ODs get isn’t very clear to me. I told him that there will always need to be a human to review what the AI says (although I’m not fully convinced on that) and also that they do much more than refraction. Also that there is a shortage of eyecare professionals in some parts of the U.S.

Do you think it’s a career that will stick around for the next 40-50 years? Why or why not?

Is this solution incorrect?

What I've learned so far about going from chair to planar is that axial or equatorial "up" generally means towards you/wedge and axial or equatorial "down" means away from you/dash.

I understand that the chair structure could be ring flipped, but that wouldn't change what is up or down, I don't think. I'm going crazy trying to figure out why this is the answer.

I know it’s probably an LUT and some combination of other color adjustments, but does anyone have the exact recipe? I absolutely love the way the footage looks in the app but don’t want to have to export it all to my phone. I’m basically a complete beginner when it comes to this, sorry if it’s a dumb question.

Right now I’m using DJI’s D-Log to M to Rec.709 V1 and it looks okay but not as good. I’ve tried combining with FCP’s saturation, brightness, exposure, etc. and it just looks bad when I add those tbh.

Or if there’s a workflow that you guys use with the app, please let me know.
