Predatory Tech Help
My Xfinity service keeps dropping and reconnecting on all devices, but the app says all connectivity is strong so I, stupidly, engaged the tech help to try to resolve the issue. After 40 minutes at least of the AI bot testing the connection, it gives me an error and connects me with a live agent. Great. He asks me for my whatever modem number - give it to him.
Then the conversation continuously shifts to getting me to take advantage of a bill-lowering deal. I keep getting prompted with “[My name], I need you to approve.” “[My name], this will lower your bill.” I note that it lowers it for 12 months and then increases it. I’m told to take advantage or a “real-time deal” after 12 months to keep it lowered. I ask if I can just have my actual issue addressed and that at this point I have spent over an hour in this chat trying to get a connectivity issue resolved. I am again told he’s just helping me blah blah. I ask to be connected to a supervisor, get told he can help me and his supervisor uses the same system (does he do whatever commission baiting this is? just connect me to someone who doesn’t do that).
I ended up just ending the chat. I’m going to call next time I have some capacity, but I do not have the time, energy, or funds to deal with games like this.
Does anyone have suggestions on getting actual tech help or.
