🐹 Help Borzi Eat Again ❤️ Guinea Pig

Borzi is a 4-and-a-half-year-old guinea pig who has been part of our family since he was just a baby. He was a birthday gift for our daughter’s 9th birthday, and quickly became one of the most loved little members of our home.

He is a shy little boy who never really liked being petted, but the moment you pick him up, he becomes incredibly cuddly and affectionate. He shows love by licking our hands. Before he became sick, Borzi was a happy little guinea pig who loved fresh grass and hay more than anything. He used to “popcorn” with excitement whenever he heard the sound of the grass bag.

We have a favorite photo of him from when he was still healthy — stretched out on his belly, little legs kicked out behind him, completely relaxed with his head resting peacefully. It showed how safe, comfortable, and happy he felt. We haven’t seen him rest like that in a very long time, and we hope with all our hearts that one day we will again.

Everything started in September 2024, when we noticed a growing swelling under his jaw and he slowly stopped eating properly. It turned out to be an abscess. He underwent his first surgery in October 2024, but sadly the abscess returned in the same area in 2025, leading to another surgery. His vets believe the recurring infections are most likely connected to his teeth.

After the surgeries, we had to separate him from his little guinea pig friend, Bubi, who he used to live closely with. They now live in a two-level cage near each other, but on separate levels because Borzi requires special care and monitoring.

Since 2025, Borzi has needed multiple dental procedures and anesthesia because of abnormal tooth growth. The repeated treatments have been very hard on his tiny body, and in April this year blood tests revealed that he is also struggling with kidney problems.

For almost two months now, Borzi has been unable to eat on his own. We hand-feed him liquid food 5-6 times every day just to keep his weight stable. At his worst, he dropped to only 700 grams, but with constant feeding and care we managed to bring him back to 830 grams.

He still tries to eat sometimes. Occasionally he nibbles a little lettuce or attempts to chew hay and pellets, but he simply cannot manage it anymore.

The hardest part for us is seeing how much he has changed. He no longer popcorns happily when he hears the grass bag. Most of the time he quietly hides in the corner or rests silently in his little hammock. Fresh grass used to be his greatest joy.

Recently, another swelling appeared near his jaw again, which likely means another infection or dental problem. We know Borzi’s condition is complicated and that his kidneys also need treatment, but we want to give him the chance to eat independently again, live without pain, and hopefully have peaceful, happy days ahead of him.

We hope we can take him to the dental surgery he needs and also provide the kidney treatments recommended by his vets. Sadly, the kidney disease has made everyday life much harder for him as well.

Over the past months, Borzi’s surgeries, treatments, checkups, and special care have become a much heavier financial burden than we ever expected. We have done everything we could to cover his medical expenses on our own, but unfortunately several unexpected family expenses came up during this time as well. Because of this, we have now reached the point where we need help to continue Borzi’s care.

We are hoping to raise 300,000 HUF (approximately €850) for Borzi’s future treatments, examinations, and the kidney therapy he needs.

Every donation, share, and kind message means the world to us and to Borzi. ❤️

We just want Borzi to be able to eat without pain again and hopefully have peaceful, happy days ahead of him.

We will continue to share updates about Borzi’s condition and his treatments along the way.

🐹 If Borzi ultimately does not need the full amount raised, the remaining donations will be given to the Hungarian Guinea Pig Rescue Association to help other guinea pigs in need. ❤️

Even one share helps us a lot. ❤️

Hello everyone ❤️ We would like to ask for help for our little guinea pig, Borzi.

Borzi has been struggling with serious dental problems for months. He has already gone through multiple abscess surgeries and dental treatments, and he is now unable to eat on his own. For almost two months we have been hand-feeding him liquid food 5-6 times a day just to keep him alive.

The repeated treatments and anesthesia have been very hard on his tiny body, and recently we also found out that he has kidney problems. He now needs further dental treatment and kidney therapy.

We tried to handle everything on our own, but after months of treatments, surgeries, and several unexpected family expenses, we have sadly reached the point where we need help to continue Borzi’s care.

We started a fundraiser in the hope of giving him the chance to eat without pain again and hopefully have peaceful, happy days ahead of him. ❤️

We are deeply grateful for every donation, kind word, and message of support. Even one share helps us a lot. ❤️
