Episodes 4, 5, and 6

Emotional Development

The more I watch their kissing scene in episode 4, the more I fall in love with their love. The comfort Hannah sinks into with him and the way you can visibly and emotionally see this growth in Garrett. This episodes kissing choreography has to be one of my favorites because it’s more than Garrett helping out a friend and (that’s his main purpose) there is this romantic development being displayed by him and subconsciously so is Hannah.

The kiss starts off slow and soft, Garrett giving her the agency and they have these split pauses where the tension is really heightening & they begin to sink in—-pace speeds up. The kissing in itself tells a story and it truly captures the trust Hannah feels and the depth of feelings Garrett is experiencing.
what else would you guys say about this scene? anything else you noticed after rewatching?

Inviting Hannah to Thanksgiving

I love this scene so much and want more discourse about it 🥹 What is your favorite part of the conversation Hannah and Garrett have?

What’s your favorite facial reaction from Garrett in regard to what Hannah admitted to him?

There is so much that can be dissected in this scene and it’s one of the few that I rewatch a lot. What were your first impressions? How many times have you seen the scene? What stood out to you? What does this scene mean to you?

“I love you“

The I love you scene is also a moment I’ve repeatedly rewatched and simply because of how endearingly raw it is. I will forever appreciate the switch from the books… having Garrett say I love you first in the show holds so much more meaning because of his characters arc and it gives me the best kind of butterflies… and the way Hannah follows up with the cutest I love you too😭

I can’t really ever get over the simplicity yet genuineness of their confessions. From their comfort, the smiles, the handholding, Garrett stroking her leg, Hannah singing to him, and my absolute favorite: “this is your art too. and your showcase piece“ AHH😭

Thoughts on season 2?

The cast and Louisa are very prominent on season 2 being a true ensemble…what are your thoughts, predictions, etc. for season 2 in regard to the couples and their ensemble moments.

I know Belmont said we get a good amount of Hannah and Garrett and they have another arc but is it an arc together? or will they have separate arcs that bleeds into their relationship?

I can see Garrett and Hannah being there for Allie and Dean like they were giving advice to them in season 1.

then we have Logan, Grace, Tucker…will their developments be within the ensemble moments…I’m so curiously excited.

I really miss Hannah and Garrett

The new article with the writers breaking down episode 4 was so insightful.

One of the many things they talk about stood out to me, when they say Garrett is the one who truly sees her (aside from Allie) and that got me thinking to all the moment Garrett hypes our girl and how he’s proud of her.

So, what’s your favorite “hype” moment from Garrett toward Hannah and why? Or your favorite “proud” moment from one of them toward the other? Let’s discuss.

I would also love to read someone’s full breakdown of Hannah’s showcase…how she’s fully grown into her voice, how she speaks her lyrics to not only Garrett but to Allie as well but my absolute favorite is the looks Garrett exhibits to Hannah.

There are a few closeup shots of Garrett beaming of joy and this proud look on his face when seeing her on that stage—-he’s enamored by her. You can literally see him taking in deep breaths, almost looking breathless, his lip quivers and his soft smiles…this scene alone can display the love he has for her.

New detail?

im missing Hannah and Garrett so much that I’ve just been rewatching the episodes…now, this may just be me trying to find new things because I miss them but in episode 8 when Garrett is going on his Instagram, on his homepage we don’t see the Snapchat app.

im overthinking it, I’m sure 😂 but he doesn’t have that many apps on his screen (there’s a lot of space) my wishful thinking is that the app got deleted 😂

Garrett and Hannah

I love the way Garrett and Hannah read others emotions or state of being and react to their positions knowing what the other would want.

In episode 5, Belmont and Ella blow me away with their dialogue about why she doesn’t go back home and Garrett asking her to join him for thanksgiving at his dad’s house.

Garrett pays attention to when Hannah is nervous, bothered, being strong, etc. And Hannah picks up on Garrett’s mannerisms (episode 3) and can also tell when something is wrong. They read each other because they grow to know one another, but actively listening and paying attention.

The way Garrett visibly looks shocked and bothered by what she is admitting (episode 5) and he sees Hannah saying all this information with this smile on her face (doesn’t let it tear her down) and he lets out a few smiles along with her and control his anger because that’s not something Hannah wants—-no dwelling. He never asks her questions or judge her or anything. He’s simply obeying what she asked but can’t help but to feel some type of way about it.

Hannah noticing he’s not being his usual responsive self with their phone call in episode 3 and notices he’s on the tenser side when he enters his childhood bedroom.

i know it can be considered “bare minimum“ behavior but this doesn’t always pertain to every person. It truly does come from a deep care when you truly see someone and notice important details.

Confused…please help!

I’ve seen a few post edits of the scene where Hannah is singing “baby, now that I found you“ and caption it, “she singing his moms favorite song.

Did I misunderstand that detail?😭 From the books we know Tuesdays Gone is his moms favorite song and see that in his playlist in the first shot of the episode and the he used that song for his story in episode 8 post breakup.

In the kitchen, Hannah tells him essentially she’s surprised that song is his most played and he said his mom would show him all types of music. I understood that as his mom introduced him to different genres, that’s why he has an ear for all types of music—-I loved that detail when we saw his playlist in episode 1…so many contrasting artists and genres. We know his mom introduced music to him to help him be distracted from his dad (we see the headphones he wears in the flashbacks) and he listens to music before the games.

little note: i love how Hannah’s mom was a singer and Garrett’s mom had a large record collection…music is one of their languages they share and I think that’s what I love about the green room scene. Music led Garrett to Hannah but he didn’t fully calm down until he saw her expressing herself—-so genuine.

but, I don’t think “baby, now that I found you“ was exactly his moms favorite song? 🤷‍♀️

Going to the showcase

I’m rewatching episode 8 and I can never get over Garrett’s face when Dean said wellsy is doing the showcase. Garrett’s all like “how do you know that?” all confused and concerned. 😭 Garrett thinking she does t want him there because there was no invite to him directly.

but my absolute favorite (I wish the camera lingered a few more seconds) is when Logan said “are you going to fight for her?” and Garrett beams with a smile and jumps toward to exit—-he’s like hell yeah I am.

Missing Hannah and Garrett day 8

hello lovelies! these are some of the moments/questions I want to focus on today:

  1. Which scene of Hannah and Garrett gave you absolute butterflies or even better a  scene you see both of them giving the other the butterflies 😭

  2. I think an underrated scene is wellsy and coach’s conversation in episode 2. Hannah was getting more insight to who Garrett is (makes more sense to her defense of Garrett to Jules) and also the coach clocking there’s more to this than her being his tutor “better hurry, Garrett’s tutor” 😂 I loved his line delivery.

  3. What’s your favorite soundtrack scene that captures what the character is feeling? I think the song choices were perfect for so many scenes. Mine is Hannah’s version of baby, now that I found you. It’s one of his most played songs and it has become very telling in that moment of his life. It makes me think that being his most played song is him constantly listening to it? It reflects to his feelings towards Hannah. I can imagine him listening to that song more and more after the block party and the birthday party.

  4. Which moment showcased how much they care about one another?
For Hannah, I saw  it the most when she took his photo with his mom and gave it to him.

  5. I also want to get opinions on some of their moments during their “deal” which moments to you come off as them acting and which moments seemed real and not an act.

  6. I wanted opinions about which moments show us what they like about each other aside from us knowing Garretts appeal that she's a music major and how lost she gets into her music.

The show doesn’t tell us specifically with them listing verbally what they like about each other—-they show it. And for Hannah, we know that she starts realizing he’s not the typical cocky jock/athlete. To you, which moments showcase them falling for other attributes.

Missing Hannah and Garrett Day 7

Hello loves! Today, I’m all over the place and there are so many random moments I want to list; so please pick one (or more) and give your thoughts, opinion, what it means to you and to their love story, all that good stuff.

  1. Chasing his girl

I love the moment when Garrett literally took off his skates and ran to Hannah. You know, we didn’t have to see that shot of him. They could’ve easily showed us her finishing up the song and him appearing the way we saw…but nope. They intentionally wanted us to see the man run to her. The hope, the desperation, the longing… I love that moment so much.

  1. Belmont said in an interview that “they were specific in when he said Wellsy and when he said Hannah.” I know someone made a post about this once…I’m curious which times were intentional and what does Hannah and Wellsy mean to Garrett in terms of when he says it 😂😭

  2. Your favorite selfless or comforting moment from the both of them?

Mine is when he suggests for her to work with Justin in episode 2 and when Hannah told him to take the bed after seeing his bruises. I would love to hear more thoughts on your reactions to that scene and how his face literally goes into serious mode when she says why she needs to win.

  1. This one was inspired by a post I saw yesterday about this topic: I also want opinions on their conversation in his bedroom (episode 2) when she says are people going to think I’m a puck bunny and he said “nobody is going to think you’re a puck bunny” and he makes the statement again when they’re with Allie looking for costumes. Hannah said “you said I’m not a puck bunny” and he said “you’re not”

I love that because to me it comes off how he sees her from the get go. Even when she does start attending his games…she’s not a puck bunny, she’s his girlfriend.

I have a lot more but will save those for later! 😇

Garrett is misunderstood

I feel like Garrett is so misunderstood and I understand that we all have our personal perspectives and subjective thoughts on how the show handles certain situations and dialogues in response to its context, but when I read things about Garrett being overly attached to Hannah or not being open enough—-it takes me back to a few weeks ago, when I read people saying that he was using her.

I feel like certain details are being ignored and taken out of context and not truly understanding who Garrett is and how they represented him to us. Firstly, Belmont said his version of Garrett is flawed and doesn’t have full control over his emotions yet and they made that clear in the show.

I'm gonna try to keep this short because I do get defensive (toxic trait) and I love both Hannah and Garrett, but I just don't like seeing him being misunderstood. For one, the interviews with Louisa and the actors are our backbone to the shows context. I hardly think they would want Garrett to be perceived as someone trauma bonding, being too codependent, toxic, etc. Belmont said specifically that's not what their relationship is; there is not trauma dumping. I know it may come off that way because he reaches out to Hannah during the game when his dad comes with Cindy, but that's not being codependent or only relying on her—-it's just that she's his safe space and he is hers.

If we think back, Hannah only trusted Garrett with her story and no one else knew; she relied on him just as much as he relies on her, but they don't use it to any sort of advantage or drag the other person down with their own energy—-it's all about the safeness that they created.

They both created that comfort space and when we look back in the beginning, Garrett doesn't even tell Hannah his whole truth up until Thanksgiving—-until she asks. So he doesn't dump anything on her and when I go back to a few weeks ago, when I read all that nonsense of him using Hannah to his advantage, him only going after because he wants to chase the feeling of being calm or the stuff about him inflicting his mom on Hannah—-like we never got those indications from the show and that's not what they wanted to project in their details or in their story.

we see Garrett taken by Hannah’s genuineness, freedom, passion, etc. that’s what captivated him and then along the way he fell in love with all of her. It’s not like he loved her right away because of feeling centered 😂 he was intrigued and fell as they got to know each other, the same goes for Hannah.

okay, that’s all for my Ted Talk. 😂

Missing Hannah and Garrett Day 6

Today, two topics were dwelling on my mind and want your opinions, thoughts, analysis, what it means to you—-all the good stuff.

  1. I was rewatching Garrett‘s confession scene in episode 8 and his “give me another chance“ is layered. Yes, he broke up with her but he was not in the right state of mind, he literally blacked out, his dad “confirmed” his greatest fear, he was worried about Wellsy…but during their breakup he was hurting & didn’t know what to do about hockey, about Hannah, he had his fight with Logan also lingering.

He’s the one asking for the a second chance because he wants to take control over his heightened emotions, not be in range, be better for Wellsy and for himself and his surroundings. She inspires him and he realized his mistakes and the breakup was impulsive based on fear & trauma.

the Garrett Graham who was all about “no girlfriends“ not only fell hard, wanting commitment, but wanting another chance to be that guy for her and himself.

  1. from s*x to making love—-I love how we see the gradual storytelling of their intimate lives. Hannah having her struggles and wanting to overcome it (😉) and Garrett having casual hookups with no emotion tied to it. The way they choreographed his hookups to parallel the difference of how hes making love to Hannah is brilliant. Hannah needed the safe space, to trust, to feel her body again, feel in it and he created that for her but she also unlocked a new space for him…s*x isn’t s*x anymore.

I would love to hear your guys thoughts about those parallels? your favorite intimate moment of theirs and how it captures them falling in love.

the montage scene needs a post of itself—-so much to digest there 🥹 and analyze but my favorite scene of them within that montage is when they’re watching dirty dancing. they’re foreheads connected, him cuddling on top of her, shes stroking circles on his arm, the doe eyes he gives her in that scene captures how much he adores her.

Missing Hannah and Garrett Day 5

hello loves! today, I want to focus all on episode 4, it’s one of tm most rewatched episodes and I honestly don’t know where to begin so please feel free to comment on literally anything that stands out to you about this episode in regard to the process of their feelings.

my main focuses are:

  1. what was Garrett truly going to say before they interrupted in the kitchen…I know we may never know and it’s up to interpretation but really given the context and the lead up if it…I think he was subconsciously admit something. But you guys tell me how you read that scene. I also love his face as she’s walking out…man did not want her to leave.
  2. my other kryptonite is the practice scene with the boys. Our boy Garrett bringing up his night with Hannah…yeah he’s down bad 😂 what was your takeaway from this scene? From Hannah’s convo with Allie and we transition to Garrett’s. what does it capture and what is the writers telling us with this scene? how does the scene reflect to their moment in the kitchen for both of them?

lets discuss 😭

also, a scene I feel like is not talked about enough is his conversation with Kendall at DS. I love how defensive he got about Hannah “You didn’t have to mess with her like that“ I CANT GET OVER IT. any thoughts about this or how it made you feel?

Off campus and 10 things I hate about you

I see so many parallels between the characters.

one that stands out is how the boys take interest in the girls. Patrick is all about it the bet and making the money but when to changes for him is where he sees Kat dancing in the club. Similar to Hannah and Garrett, Kat and Patrick don’t hit it off right away and have these impressions of each other that doesn’t showcase who they truly are.

Garrett similar to Patrick saw Hannah in her most genuine state of being. She was having a concert to herself and he took liking to that. Thats where “there’s more than meet the eye” takes place.

Not having experience in having a crush or connecting with someone…when he see the ine who just captures you…you don’t need to seek anyone else.

“You’re the real catch”

Someone brought this line up in my previous post and I’m so thankful because it reminded me how much I love this line of his.

“and by the way, you’re the real catch, so act like it.“

what does this like mean to you? what does it say about Garret and where he stands on his feelings?

for him to say “you’re the real catch“ it when sees that once he saw and got to know the real her…he sees her value. Garrett is used to the girls going after him but to see Hannah be nervous over J, he calms her down and makes her realize he should be fawning over you.

Missing Hannah and Garrett day 4

hello loves, today’s moments are roughly all from episode 3. please share your thoughts, analysis, anything that stood out to you, or what you took note about the patterns of them falling in love.

To begin, the issue of Zoe is such a hot topic as I’ve seen lately and I’ve seen so many different perspectives on it. But when we look at the given context of the scenes (putting our subjective opinions aside) there was a reason for that moment and Louisa changed the placing of that scene from the book in the show with a purpose.

We know Garrett is passive. He doesn’t go chasing the girls, the girls hover over him and that’s also a reason he never noticed Hannah. Not only is he in his controlled plan mindset, he’s used to the girls being all over him. I know people call him a player but actually he’s not, nothing gives off that impression. He lets off his steam with who approaches him and he‘s upfront about his situation—-no commitments, puts his control forefront…no girlfriends means no distractions.

Many things ticked him off from the span of Hannah rescheduling and him being downstairs. The commotion caused discombobulation…he stormed upstairs all alone——Zoe offered him the “help”

This moment was necessary to showcase Garrett’s priorities are changing because him chasing Hannah is the answer in itself and him forgetting Zoe was in his room is also self-explanatory…his thoughts were occupied with Hannah. He owned up to his mistake and wanted her to come back inside. For Hannah, after that moment Justin faded and Garrett appeared in her dream, her subconscious feelings are taking over.

The two truths apply to both of them here.

  1. If I could I would do a whole breakdown essay on the rescheduling phone call. Hannah clocking that Garrett isn’t himself (knows him better) and garrett‘s attitude going from excited to disappointed, bothered, and jealous. His micro expressions can really tell a story in itself in this scene. What did this moment mean to you? what did you notice? what did you take away from Garrett‘s character?

  2. I would love to heard thoughts, analysis, anything that stood out to you about the whole karaoke sequence.

I’ve mentioned this before but my absolute favorite is clocking Garrett’s face dropping  a bit when he’s gazing at her singing. Belmont said in an interview that karaoke is really where the ball starts rolling for Garrett and he thinks to himself “the deal is going to come to an end soon but I actually like her” and you capture that moment on Garrett’s face. He’s totally enamored by her but there are two moments where he does look melancholic because of the deal & his feelings deepening.

  1. I have a hard time deciphering silent moments…I enjoyed the car ride so much but I would have loved dialogue. I’m not saying it needed it, it’s just a personal reference. What was going through their heads in that moment? 😂

Honorable mention: Garrett inviting Hannah to karaoke night. Justin wasn’t there and even though his friends and Jules are going to be there, the deal motion is still intact but he merely invited her to hangout with her 😭

The more I rewatch…

the block party scene is my kryptonite at this point. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve rewatched this scene and it’s like I can talk about it forever.

there is a reason the writers showed us Garrett having interest in Hannah before the making of the deal. This is not what happened in the books…Garrett was solely all about the grade…show Garrett is a different story.

The impression I got after their conversation at Malone‘s, it seems the asking of tutoring wasn’t going to occur again based off what she said about not liking hockey and that struck a cord to Garrett.

He approaches her at the block party after the green room (another scene I can literally talk about over and over again) and this to me is very intentional. Garrett who has denied having or wanting a girlfriend is sitting at a block party trying to find Hannah on the socials—-already a bold move on his part honestly.

Given the context of the following episodes we can see he is smitten with her and his walls of control crack here and there but he still keeps his stance up at times. But by episode 3, we know he’s down bad. His micro expressions within their phone call when she’s rescheduling can tell a story on its own. He pushed her to work with J, but it’s killing him internally. He’s feeling way too much way too quickly and it’s hard for him to catch up especially when he wants to be in control.

after rewatching it for the 20th time, I don’t think its really about the grade even when he needed it 😅 truthfully, he didn’t even know the outcome of it all…but tutoring was a good place to start.

Missing Hannah and Garrett Day 3

okay, loves, I have a quite a few I’m going to mention and please be free to respond to any one of them or all of them and give your amazing thoughts.

A lot of moments from episode 2 stood out to me in particular to Garrett and majority of these scenes I post will be about his process because I usually pay attention to the guys more as a romantic girly—-thats where I analyze the most but don’t worry for episode 3 I have a few from our girl Hannah’s pov✨

  1. Garrett made it clear to Logan that him and Hannah are not exclusive and just dating. He also mentioned this again to Hannah in episode 3 after catching him with Zoe. Was this a callback to him saying “something like that” in episode 1 when she said you’ll be my fake boyfriend.

Thoughts on him not wanting to be exclusive…? Was it to maintain his control and him still unaware to what exactly he’s feeling?

  1. I need more thoughts on his actions at the party when Justin arrives. His “Be cool. You’re with me. Hey, he’s just another guy, right?” Came off as protective; in the sense of he saw her getting nervous and he was calming her down. Thoughts on this? And then what do you think about him pulling her away from Justin’s sight 😉 would love to hear what you think that whole scene was presenting to us.

  2. Right before he comes over the closed can, Hannah tells Jules “he can be nice when he wants to be” and he enters in with a drink. He was thinking about her and what she can drink since she wasn’t drinking alcohol. (just wanted to mention that cute set up)

  3. What does his smile mean to you when he’s back on the floor after he woke up to them falling asleep. I think it’s good representation of book Garrett when he said falling asleep together is for girlfriends, I don’t do girlfriends but this felt nice. I think that’s what his smile encapsulated.

bonus: what is about Hannah’s page one song on her Instagram had Garrett so enthralled?

I’ve never been in love and wonder what it entails

I am a 28 year old woman who has never been in love, never been on a date, never kissed anyone, never held hands with…but I am such a hopeless romantic. I love seeing people be in love.

Since I was a child, I was fascinated with movies and tv shows that only showcased couples and romance. Then as I got older, I fell into the world of romance books and have been fed many different types of love stories…but never understood what it truly entails outside the fictional world.

Ive always been enthralled by fictional coupes and their love stories, but at times I question them because I don’t know what it means to fall in love, what the process is, what’s genuine and what’s not.

Now, I know love has a different definition for every single person. There are different love languages everyone pertain towards…so each love story I watch or read about is essentially different because of experiences and how they fall in love.

ive always said that if I’m not in love in my real life, I get to see love within the fictiona ones but even those ones confuse me at times 😅
I am currently reading a book where the leads know of each other but not personally and have these “false” impressions of one another. But there is a moment where the male lead sees this side of the female lead and that piques his interest, never noticed her at first and has this mantra of not doing girlfriends but after seeing the girl being in her own genuine space he felt something. how does this happen? how can you go from not noticing someone and see them one way and then seeing them in a different way that piqued an interest.

I know I’m overthinking for something that is fiction but I’m just genuinely curious how that works and how that interest ends up with them falling in love. like how do you know you’ll fall in love with someone you just have interest in?

Age Groups

before my daily scene analysis posts, I needed to ask this question 😅

Dean is a senior. Garrett, Logan, Allie, Hannah are juniors? and Tucker is sophomore?

how are the seasons going to play out with each season being a semester as Louisa said.

season 2 is picking up right where we left off…is this going to be deans last year? will he miss credits and need to continue a little longer to graduate. if we get more seasons that would mean season 3 would be fall semester again and season 4 will be spring semester…that’s when Garrett, Logan, Hannah and Allie graduate and Tucker would still have 1 more year left.

im so curious about this.

His look will never get old

Truly, I feel like I am out of words to describe the way they make me feel.

This moment is very underrated and a look that is not talked about enough.

Garrett is in spiraling mode and simultaneously so was Hannah. Once Garrett realizes Hannah is not there and not being responsive…he begins to worry. Hannah had one of the most profound conversations with Daveed and that led her to Garrett.

Not only is Garrett freaking out over the game, his team, and his dad…he’s also worried about her.

In this very moment, he captures how much she means to him. After she says she knows he was worried, this is the look he gave her. He didn’t start talking about his problems or dump on her…he was just looking at her with the softest gaze. 😭 He’s looking at her like “I’m glad you’re okay.”

what does this look mean to you? or if you have any other favorite looks shared between them and why?
