Who really runs the UK?

At the risk of sounding like a total conspiracy theorist, I’m just wondering who do people really thinks has power, or is in charge of the uk?

I’m just confused basically. I’ve heard so many theories and see so many different figureheads, that I just wonder, do people think someone’s is behind it all? Not the Illuminati, I just mean I don’t really feel, despite the fact we’re supposed to be a great democracy, an ordinary citizen really has much influence

There’s a monarchy but aren’t they just a tourist attraction these days?

A prime minister? Sort of feels like we’ve had the substitute teachers for the last however many years now… (what number is Burnham?)

Is it a rich elite?

American tech oligarchs buying all the politicians?

Is Rupert Murdoch still around?

Is it Blackrock or some other investment fund?

I mean even our water isn’t ours. If I’m not wrong, Thames Water is just an asset in a Canadian pension fund isn’t?

I keep seeing these stories about foreign asset managers buying all the houses… I read about a village not far from where I grew up that’s just been told an asylum centre is being built there that holds almost 1000 people but the village has a population of about 300 and the council weren’t even consulted, so how democratic is that?

A flat in London where I live now is about 8.5x the avg salary but a no can only lend you 4.5x, and then an asset manager can just buy the flat in cash, or a shared ownership scheme that charges people service fees with no cap…

It’s like living here feels like we are just chickens in some factory farm, no chance to grow no chance to settle just a resource for extraction

Anyway, I know this might stir things up and I’m not tying to inflame or upset anyone. I’m just curious, as I’d consider myself a pretty average Brit who’s totally confused about society, what do people think is actually happening to us?

New site has been live 6 weeks, front page but hardly any clicks

SEO newbie needing some advice

I recently made this new site which is in the finance and business topic for the UK

This is how search console is looking after about 6 weeks

Impressions are picking up and the avg position has been about 8 over the last 7 days. So as far as I know this means my site is ranking on the first page.

But I only have 7 clicks which seems low if I’m on page 1?

I also noticed that the queries where I’m ranking position 1 all have just 1 impressions and are really short or look like follow up questions. The gen ai impressions also really picked up, so does this all point to my site is being shown in AI overviews?

I read that only 1% of the links shown in ai overviews get clicked so maybe that’s why I only have 7 clicks

Also, just from everyone’s experience launching new sites, does this look ok for 6 weeks or should I expect a lot more traffic by now? ( there’s about 20 articles on the site)

Thanks for your thoughts

Me (36M) and gf (33F) finally got our own place - now I realised I don’t like living with her

Me 36M and gf 33/F have been together for 5 years. We live in a very expensive capital city. We live together for a few years already with two flatmates. Finally we got our own place just the two of us. I hate it.

I find her totally overwhelming and she has no respect for my personal space. I pay the larger share of rent but she has all the storage space to herself. she even completely took over the balcony with her plants and keeps buying more so I can’t even sit outside. I have a hybrid job so I work from home two days a week, o don’t even have a desk. We made space for me to put one and before I knew it she’s filled it with her stuff. She has so much stuff! Plus she keeps getting stuff from home sent here from her parents. It’s exhausting

When we had flatmates we had less space but at least we had a break from each other and someone else to talk to and if there’s was something annoying us about the flat we always had a convenient excuse - our flatmate is such a mess etc. Now it’s just us so there’s now excuse or escape

Honestly I thought at me age I’d have a nice home office, a stylish grown up interior and space to entertain my friends and family. Instead I’m literally embarrassed to invite my family here because they’ll see how pathetic I am to be totally overwhelmed by a partner. Honestly I think if anyone who knew me saw the place they couldn’t even tell I lived here

How do people actually negotiate and share a space when one partner apparently just doesn’t even consider the other?

Bike ninja phones thieves are back

Was just walking near Holborn and saw one of those electric bikes with a guy in full black outfit and bally

I was ok the other side of the street and heard a woman scream so looked over and saw the bike - the guy then just dropped the phone or maybe discarded it, not sure if they want it a certain model or try to grab it whilst it’s unlocked or something but the woman was lucky in this case as she just needs a new screen protector

But keep phones on your pockets people! I thought they got rid of these guys last summer but seems they’re back at it
