Yay We Made it as Far as Brazil!
Norway eliminating Brazil means we lost in the round of 16 just like them!
A little levity... I know we are nowhere near their level but still. Good to know even top teams sometimes lose in the round of 16.

I woke up with this question in my head. If you're a parent with 2 kids right now, and you haven't taken steps to close the door (tubes tied or vasectomy), and you were offered 20 thousand dollars cash to have a third child, would you do it? Why or why not?

Caveat: this question is not directed at people who intend to have more than 2. I'm interested in responses of people who intended to have 2 only but just haven't gotten around to making that decision permanent.
So, I tried a thing.

I like planning my backpacking trips on spreadsheets, to visualize the logistics and understand the planned route and challenges and make sure mileage isn't out of whack... I do a bunch of things. Mostly for peace of mind, because like any good plan it goes almost entirely out the window once you're on the ground.

But this time I decided to see if AI is all it's cracked up to be to save time and analyze data. I used it to put together a trip plan for a 60km defined trail with publicly available data online.

It was somewhat helpful. It was able to build my spreadsheet for me and identify some pain points. It also helped by pulling things like tide tables (the trip incorporates some stretches of seashore) which it never occurred to me.

But the bad... It got about 50% of daily mileage wrong straight out. And when I tried to use it to rejig distances to eliminate some long days and short days, it really went sideways.

I had to manually look up mileages and distances and then tell it the correct information. In one case I asked it where it got its numbers and to explain how two points that are visibly closer on a map could be farther away than two other points. It defended itself by drawing a sketch of a forked trail to the points when all three were in a line.

Lesson learned: if you're going to use AI to plan your trips, supply the data to it directly, don't trust it to find the data itself. Trust but verify. Or you may get yourself into big trouble in the bush.
First time I've watched it in 20 years. Watched it a bunch back in the day (wife and I were just dating when it came out).
Check me if I'm wrong, but green screen was fairly new back then right? It was seamless. Stunning.
And drone shots weren't a thing back then either. Several shots totally looked like drone work only they were over a vessel that didn't exist featuring real actors. Breathtaking.
Honestly, the effects work in Titanic were superior to LoTR and that's saying a lot because I love Jacksons movies but I admit there were moments and shots where you could see the effects as effects. That didn't happen in Titanic.
So I played golf using my 2 to track strokes and such. I thought it was quite handy and easier to use than a score card. Whenever I'd hit a ball it would count the stroke for me and when I putted out it somehow knew and immediately asked me to confirm my score.
Today was my first round with my instinct 3 using Garmin golf. Looked like the same app, but it would not pick up my contact with the ball, and when I finished the hole I'd have to get a good 25 yards away from the green before it would ask me to score the hole. And I couldn't figure out how to force it to do it early.
I don't know if this is a downgrade or if I just didn't set something up properly. Any thoughts?
I have the Instinct 2 Solar right now. My problem is I'm getting older. I need reading glasses and it seems the older I get the less tolerance my eyes have for dim light. Currently I'm finding the Instinct 2 quite hard to read while running or working out which is when I look at it the most. For those who have gone from the 2 to the 3, does the new model help with this? Will moving to a 50 mm face help?
Let's see how fast this gets downvoted by everyone calling for Bowman's head right now.
I started thinking after game 3 about something. The Oil have gone deep two years running and been beaten up along the way. It showed in the total games lost to injury in the regular season, and from reports coming out several players were playing on broken bones in the playoffs.
This team needed a rest and a reset. A first round exit may be just what the doctor ordered.
I'm not convinced Jarry and Ingram are the solution. But the big three are all locked in long term so I'm not worried about this team imploding. A nice 5 month off-season will help get people healed up and rehabbed thoroughly for a healthier 26-27. A year of seasoning may well make Howard ready to make the leap next year. This team is capable of gold standard penalty killing and their pp is also capable of otherworldly success - if the core is healthy. These have not changed with a bad run this year. I expect that this team will come flying out of the gate and with the division at least next year and carry momentum into the playoffs instead of limping in with big guns crippled and hoping to be back in time.
So there's my optimistic take, you may now continue your doom-mongering.
