“OFF COURSE” live debut snippet from The Caverns
UPDATE: This is NOT “OFF COURSE”, it’s actually “Henchlock”, sorry! — First performance since 2019 though!
Not the greatest angle, but HOLY SHIT! What a show so far!
Taping at The Caverns
Overjoyed to have scored tickets to the Caverns next week. I was hoping to make a recording of the show, even though I suspect that at least the jam-focused 2nd set will get an official release down the line (a la Live at the Broad).
Does anyone have experience taking a Zoom h4n to the Caverns? Has anyone ever reached out to Dwyer and co. to be able to get a board recording for a show? It seems like there are a couple board recordings on Archive.org, and I’m wondering if those people got permission or just happened to know the sound guy. Anyone have any intel?
The new album synchronizes with the 1911 film L'Inferno
L'Inferno (1911) and Boards of Canada's new album are both roughly 1 hour and 10 minutes... I cut together a version in Premiere which I obviously cannot share here due to copyright infringement, but give it a shot manually and see what you think -- They even made it really easy with the continuous mix!
In this cut, "Introit" serves as opening credits music, "Prophecy" begins almost exactly as the film proper does, and towards the end, Dante and Virgil emerge from Hell to "Platonia", and Satan chomps on Dante's enemies during the prettiest moment of the album, "Space and Time" (hilarious). I haven't watched all of it yet, and I feel like there's a little too much dead space between tracks for it to be fully intentional (as well as tons of different cuts of this literally ancient movie that may not sync as well), but it's certainly fascinating to think about, especially considering the movie turns 115 years old this year...
Try it for yourself!
Favorite unofficially released Osees/Dwyer recordings?
John Dwyer and co. generally do an amazing job putting out live recordings that span all different eras of their output and varied musical interests, especially when they play shows with unique setlists (Levitation Sessions, Live at Big Sur, Live at The Broad, Live at Permanent Records, and so on).
Are there any unofficially released Osees concerts or live recordings that are held in particularly high esteem? There are a few concerts available to stream on Archive.org, and as always some neat deep cuts, demo versions, and more available on OBRA (Osees Bootleg Record Archive by Artiefox); is there anything particularly mind-blowing available online that hasn’t been officially released already? Any favorites the heads can recommend?
