I'm new to following the County Championship, and the One Day Cup, but why-oh-why do we have to wait until 20th September for the Final?!

What's the full extent of Marcus North's job?

I've heard a lot about Steven Fleming not being in the country and how he should be here to keep an eye on the players, which is a point of view I totally understand.

However, we have a national selector. Surely his job is to gather a pool of players to invite around the England camp/system to have a look at and give to the Head Coach?

Where does the selector's job end and the Head Coach's role begin when it comes to selection?

Watching the Sheffield Shield overseas

G'day!

I'm a red-ball loving Englishman who loves our own County Championship. How do I go about watching the Sheffield Shield? Is it on YouTube? Is it geo-locked or anything?

Also, please give me your best sledge for my Englishness and our hapless cricketing situation.

Club Cricket Day 2027...

Hi all,

Following on from the thread about this being a free Saturday...

I propose a grassroots/club cricket day in 2027, promoted nationwide, in order to promote club cricket. The idea should be to get more people through the doors/gates of their local clubs; a) for more money behind the bar, and b) to get them interested in the game. In many ways, it would mirror non-league day in football.

I think it has to be a Saturday, as that's when most clubs play their strongest sides.

A brief look at next summer's provisional schedules suggests that the best day might be:

Saturday 12th June

That's because:

  • Premier League: 2026/27 season finishes 30 May 2027, nearly two weeks before.
  • Men's Ashes: starts 18 June, so this is in the run-up.
  • Wimbledon: starts 28 June.
  • Women's Ashes: Headingley Test starts 24 June.
  • Champions League final: 5 June, a week before.
  • Nations League Finals: semis are midweek (9/10 June), final is Sunday 13 June, not the Saturday.

7th August could be a backup in case of bad weather... it's a bit busier, but an option.

I reckon I could handle a bit of the press for this (that's in my wheelhouse) & could contact the ECB for support but we'd definitely need more help.

What do you think? Any suggestions on other dates? Anything in particular needs doing? Any volunteers?

What's the best County Championship podcast?

I know the likes of Wisden, Stick to Cricket, Skyand BBC Cricket podcasts touch on the Champo, but are there any I've missed that focus solely on it?

There's one from The Cricketer, and The County Chat but they're both quite sporadic.

Anyone?
