I have an academic job opportunity in Victoria, British Columbia. Please help me before I make a very big decision. Tell me more about the area!

My job offer is in downtown Victoria. I hear the weather can be nice even though nearby can be very wet and cold. I love nature, people, and many aspects of Canadian government and Canadian citizens. I speak English, Spanish, and German. I'm looking for the real cost of living (taxes, food, gas, recreation, housing in or out of the city). I love hiking. I am a middle-aged, single male. Thank you, in advance, for any advice you can offer!

Easily-accessible, public land for rockhounding vacation

I have vacation time, some side money saved up, and the ability to fly or drive anywhere from Canada to Mexico. I want to spend it rockhounding, hiking, and being alone. What's the best place for me to go where I can access public land or accessible land to look for a wide variety of stones? I have 7-10 days. Serious replies, please.

Bahamian anole fungal infection?

Hello, my son has been raising a Bahamian anole for the past two years, Mikey, and it appears that Mikey has developed what might be a fungal infection on his back/shoulder area. He was separated from his friends, and we cleaned the enclosure, and ensured he had his basic comforts. But I read this is painful and nobody wants Mikey to suffer, nor have to deal with this condition. How can we treat him? There are no small animal vets near us, and the University clinic is closed at the moment and bare bones over the summer. I would attach a photo but it appears I cannot.

The fungus (or whatever it is) is whitish and does not come off with a dab of wet cloth. I don't want to hurt the little guy. He's still eating crickets, and he's still acting like a little tough guy, flashing that dewlap or whatever as his sticks his tongue out and pumps up his chest and biceps.

My son wants to be a herpetologist and this is really upsetting him. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

A simple note of thanks

Tonight during a Matriarch event at Dam Battlegrounds, I was under the electric substation and got lit up by a shredder, an auto gun, and two ticks (I’ve never seen a shredder at Dam before). I had just maxed out and modded my guns and my loot slots were full. I thought I was done for. But a raider heard the commotion, finished off the shredder, and he defibbed me, which was the first time a raider had ever come by and saved my ass. I said thanks and he moved on. It’s just a game. It wasn’t even a big moment, but it was a good memory and I appreciate ya, raider. Made me appreciate the game even more.

I posted the “f*ckit bucket” last month—when me, my kids, or friends, or their friends have a crap day or life is just no bueno, we take a dip into the bucket. No questions are asked. But we will listen if you have something to say. Kids can say “fuck it” just that once. You can talk about the problems or the cards or neither. But other than my younger son’s team losing three games in a row, life has been pretty good. And now the bucket is overflowing. I’ll load it with a pack or hanger or fatty every few days, and usually I can’t keep it stocked. My younger son said life is so good we should share. But just for now. We already handed out Allen and Ginter packs to his baseball team after their 14–2 loss. So, in the spirit of the f*ckit bucket, if you’ve had one of those weeks or days or years, and you need to take a dip in the bucket, just let us know on this or the baseball card sub, and my kids and I will ship out a couple items out to you. Share your problem or reason for saying “fuckit” or don’t share. Just let us know and we got your back. I’m going to let my younger son pick who we will mail to because he’s got a real good heart for these things. We will keep your shipping address confidential and in our DMs. If we don’t pick you please know we still are thinking of you and want things to get better—no matter how big or small.
