Cost structure for month-of wedding coordinator?

Hi! My wedding is in mid-January 2027, and the month-of wedding coordinator sent me a contract with the payment schedule being 25% due now, then 25% payments for the next 4 months so that the final payment is completed by early/mid-December, which is a little over one month before my wedding. Is this typical timeline for a wedding coordinator, with last payment due >1 month before the wedding?

DJ Costs near Miami, FL?

Hi! I'm looking for DJs for our 2-day wedding events near Miami, with a total of about 300 guests. We have two day of events for our fusion Indian wedding all at the same venue:

Day 1: Sangeet/Welcome, 4 hours total, 1 hour of famil/yfriends performances in a reception hall with preplanned music, but otherwise non-dance music music playing the rest of the night.

Day 2: 30-60 minutes outdoor groom precession (baraat) with mobile speakers; outdoor courtyard ceremony microphones, 3 hour cocktail hour indoors with background music, and reception 4 hours (open dance floor, speeches, emcee for announcements, etc.)

We're not huge music buffs, but care about adequate sound quality and to have fun for the dance floor on reception night. We got quote for DJ for a total of >$10,000 across the two days.

What price ranges you think would be reasonable for both these days? I understand DJs generally don't charge hourly rate. Appreciate any advice!

Do brides need to re-do makeup completely after wedding ceremony before reception?

Hi! We will be having a Hindu ceremony for our wedding where my fiance (East Asian) is going to wear a lehenga, then a reception where she will wear a white dress. Our ceremony is going to be at ourdoors at 3-4pm and reception indoors at 6:30/7pm. Initially she felt her make-up tends to be less complicated, and she just wanted to do a touch-up after the ceremony rather than re-doing the entire make-up prior to reception. However, one hair/makeup artist she spoke with said that the brides have usually redone makeup and done touch-up for hair because of the fire/smoke during the ceremony and rice being tossed around.

Questions:

  1. Do you feel like she needs make-up redone rather than touch-up after the ceremony?
  2. Do you feel like it's best to hire someone for hair/makeup who mostly does Indian weddings? There was some concern from her about people who don't do Indian weddings not generally offering make-up to be adjusted after ceremony before reception or it being double price for touch-ups.
  3. Is 1 hour adequate to get changed out of lehenga into white dress, and re-do make-up and touch-up hair?

Honestly appreciate any advice you have regarding hair/makeup/draping in this setting. It's been a frustrating source of stress due to confusion, also since we had settled on some folk but learned we needed to find someone for draping as well. Thanks in advance

Miami , FL - Recommendations for bride lehenga/dupatta drapers

Hello! We are looking to find someone near Miami or Coral Gables area in Florida for Saturday in Janauary 2026 for a Hindu ceremony, to help with bride draping for her lehenga. Surprisingly, struggling to find options for some reason who do that.
Also, do people usually need draping help for sangeet?

Drapings vs Hair/Makeup for bride?

Hi! I'm getting married in South Florida in January, and my fiance (Japaneses) is struggling to make some decisions regarding hair/makeup and draping. We are doing sangeet on one day and then Hindu ceremony and then reception the next day. For daytime ceremony, she is going to be wearing a red lehenga, and reception is going to be white dress. It's her first time wearing Indian clothing. She ideally wants to find one person that does hair, makeup, and draping to help with lehenga and dupatta, though most of those people tend to have not done as much makeup for East Asian brides. We are also considering option about finding one person she prefers for just hair/makeup, and find someone else to help just with the lehenga and dupatta, but she is concerned about having two different people to handle and coordinate. We also discussed doing 1 person for makeup + 1 person for hair/draping, but she is also concerned about those two people coordinating.

Looking for advice on basically finding one person to do all three tasks (hair, makeup, dupatta + lehenga draping) vs 2 different people? Is dupatta and lehenga draping very tied to the makeup & hair such that that it's ideal to get one person rather than two different people? Would it be stressful to coordinate two people?

Budgeting app recommendations especially handling split-transactions

Hi! I’m looking for recommendations for a budgeting app. I currently have an Excel sheet with my estimated monthly budget, including recurring expenses, savings contributions, and estimated spending by category. Now I want to compare that budget with what I’m actually spending and saving so I can adjust each category.
The complication is that I share many expenses with my fiancée and friends:

  • My fiance uses my credit cards so we can maximize points. At the end of each month, I request her share of joint expenses and any personal expenses on Venmo/Zelle.
  • I also frequently pay for group expenses and receive multiple Venmo reimbursements, or vice versa.

I’m looking for an app that handles this well. Ideally, it would have:

  • Good categorization of expenses
  • Reliable auto-syncs across accounts
  • Monthly spending by categories and breakdowns
  • Correct treatment of transfers between my own accounts. Example:
    • If I transfer money from checking to HY savings or brokerage accounts, that should be counted as a transfer, not spending/earnings.
  • A way to associate reimbursements with the original expense, or at least just count towards that same reimbursement category.
    • Example 1: If I paid $200 for group dinner on my card, and I got multiple Venmo transfers totaling $150, I want Dining to refelct the actual $50 I spent that month.
  • Ideal: Tags or split-transaction features for expenses belonging partially or entirely to my fiance, and reflect this in categories accordingly. This is so it doesn't look like I'm overspending for two people's worth of expenses in a month.
    • It would be incredible if I could tag her purchases throughout the month and have the app total how much she owes me. That would replace the monthly spreadsheet, but this feature is not a requirement.

Accounts I would want to link:

  • 1 checking
  • 1 HY Savings
  • 3 credit cards
  • Venmo
  • Roth IRA
  • Personal brokerage account

Which apps handle these situations best? Appreciate any recommendations or thoughts in advance!

Multiple questions about hiring a DJ

Hi! We are planning a fusion (Indian-Japanese) wedding, and doing a sangeet/welcome dinner on Friday, and then on Saturday doing a baraat, Hindu ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception.

I'm trying to figure out how many hours I need a DJ as it seems like the cost is going to build up very quickly if we need them for like 3-4 hours on Friday, and then basically like 9-10 hours on Saturday.

I was curious of how pricing or logistics has worked for other people for hiring DJs, especially for the Saturday event which has variable needs throughout the day?

  • Sangeet (Friday, 6-10pm): DJ for 3-4 hours? Though we are only doing cultural dances for 45-60 minutes and don't want an open dance floor afterwards, just some chill music playing in the background.
  • Baraat (Saturday, 2-3pm): We'll have dhol but maybe also need some music?
  • Ceremony (Saturday, 3-4pm): Need microphones for speeches/ceremony.
  • Cocktail (4-6:30pm): Don't need a DJ?
  • Reception (6:30pm-11): Likely need DJ whole time for speeches, dances, dance floor

Are the wall changes in living room likely mold?

Hi! We recently noticed these changes at the bottom of the wall below our living room window (images). We live in a large apartment complex in Houston, TX with a leasing office that is not particularly friendly. I had a few questions:

  1. Do you think this is mold?

  2. If it is mold, what would be the best next steps? Do we just immediately contact our leasing office, try cleaning it ourselves, or something else? I've read about health impacts and tenant rights with mold, but it seems like it would be challenging to prove in our situation, but even in terms of cleaning and repairs, I'm not sure what the best next steps are?

  3. If it's not mold, any recommendations for cleaning this wall area then?

Thanks in advance!

Confusion about wedding party formation

Hi! We're having a ~300-person wedding, mostly Indian-style sangeet, wedding ceremony, and then a typical reception. About half the guests are our friends, and the other half are groom's parent's friends, family, and local community. Among our friends, it's about a roughly 50-50 split between bride and groom. We haven't decided about whether to do a wedding party or not yet, and are seeking advice on the situation.

Groom side: 1 brother, 2-3 male friends, 5 female friends (group of 2 and a group of 3).

Bride side: 1 brother, 1 female best friend (could be MOH).

With the nature of the ceremony, the wedding party isn't actually standing at the front for the ceremony. It would mostly be groom's female friends joining for makeup as several of the makeup artists offer a 4-5 person minimum, speeches (which some might be asked to give anyway), announcements on entry to reception, and perhaps some dances for the sangeet (which some might do anyway). I'm not sure what else we would exactly have the bridal party do or expect. I don't know if a bachelor/bachelorette party would be something we do given number of people on each side.

Would it be a bit odd for the sides to be very unbalanced like this in this large wedding? We were possibly thinking about doing a MOH and BM, and have the rest of the group be just part of the "wedding party" rather than assign sides. However, I haven't seen that before and not sure how it would be presented differently. Other option is just to not have a wedding party, and perhaps bride's best friend would just join for makeup that morning.

Appreciate any suggestions or advice!

IBR vs PAYE vs RAP during residency?

Hi! I had two questions about getting out of the SAVE plan, and assuming I'm aiming for PSLF:

  1. Since all these plans count towards PSLF, and during residency monthly payments may be relatively similar (filing singly) among the plans, is there any reason to not pick RAP to get interest subsidy and then switch to IBR as an attending when salary increases? That way I would get subsidy benefit for 2 years with low payments and then switch to IBR to get capped to 10y standard instead of RAP? I have 2 years of residency left so wondering if there's any advantage of picking IBR now which has no subsidy benefit ( I think)?

  2. If I was on SAVE for 1 year before it went into forbearance (2023-2024 then forebearance), does IBR still have any of that 3 year subsidy benefit if I start on the plan now?

Just a little confused, as I applied to IBR yesterday and waiting approval, but confused if I made wrong decision and switch to either PAYE or IBR.

Looking for best personal task management platforms

Hi! I’m looking to better optimize my workflow and task management across multiple domains in both personal and work. Right now I’m scattered between physical sticky notes, virtual sticky notes, Outlook/Google tasks, random notes, etc., and it’s getting frustrating trying to maintain one reliable to-do system.

For context, I usually have several different research projects going at once, plus post-clinic tasks at home/office. These tasks are a mix of short-term, long-term, deadline-driven, and “eventually get to this” items. I also want to use the same system for personal things like travel planning, wedding planning, personal finance, errands, etc.

Thus, looking for recommendations for best ways to help manage this better, probably through some sort of available web/app platform.

Must-have features:

  • Works on both Mac and Windows computers (perhaps it would have to be web-based?)
  • Allows tasks to have a due date or no due date
  • Supports multiple separate projects/lists/areas without everything becoming cluttered
  • Lets me view tasks by specific project/topic, but also by time frame, such as today, this week, overdue, upcoming, etc.
  • Easy task capture, since I often need to jot something down quickly and organize it later
  • Not too complicated to maintain in the long-term
  • Ability to mark task as complete

Optional:

  • Ability to add notes/details/subtasks under a task, since some tasks might have multiple components to them.
  • Ability to "uncheck" a completed task
  • Good search/filtering so I can find tasks by project, keyword, due date, etc.
  • Works on smartphone: minimum Android, ideal both Android + iPhone
  • Option to set certain tasks as recurring daily/weekly/etc.
  • Integration with Outlook and Google

Would prefer something that is free, but open to considering a paid option if they're actually worth it. I’m also open to changing my workflow if someone has better ideas for a system.
