Can jack stud run from top of subfloor all the to underneath beam?

Renovating my kitchen (house built in 1950 in northern Ca).

I have the walls gutted and this large opening has only 1 jack stud. There is plenty of froom for another jack stud. Can i add another jack stud without it resting on a bottom plate 2x4? And just have it sit on the subfloor plank directly.

Seems uneccessary to try to extend the bottom plate or cut a portion of the existing out and swap in a new one. Curious what others think. See last pic.

Thoughts and game ideas for small voxel planet(s)?

https://reddit.com/link/1unoskz/video/r2oix1nk6bbh1/player

Character in scene is from Godot Plush character by Tibo. And I am using Godot for the engine.

I am trying to make a game that I would like to play and could be commercially viable and that could run on everyone's machine (i.e not trying to use compute shaders or anything like that would restrict certain machines) - something that has editable terrain, multiplayer, maybe battle royale and/or mini games, maybe some survival modes. Maybe different AI - enemies and friendlies can be in the game b/c Astroneer has no AI the last time I played and that was one of the reasons why it felt empty to me. Not 100% sure and kind of stuck now b/c there are all sorts of games out there and upcoming games that are way better at voxels already and I am not trying to copy something else. Some games I am taking inspiration from:

  • Astroneer
  • Worms
  • Fortnite
  • Minecraft
  • Mario Galaxy
  • Fall Guys

Curious what others think.

Thoughts on extending 1950 cloth wire with new romex?

Yes, ive already tried calling 10 different electricians to do this but no answer from anyone so im doing this myself.

I gotta undo this splice to fix some framing in the crawlspace nearby. This splice goes directly into an outlet box. And the splice is sketchy anyway and should be in a junction box or at least all the way in the outlet box.

I was gonna undo it in the outlet box and pull out it from underneath in the crawlspace. Splice new romex with the existing and put it in a junction box. And the new romex runs up to the outlet above. Thoughts? I have done my research on how to do a splice/junction but cant find much info about working with old wire. My concern is what do i do what the ground wire from the new romex b/c this old wire does not have a ground.

Thoughts on distance between rebar and edge of concrete?

Been getting paranoid about rusting rebar causing concrete to fail prematurely.

I poured this pier in the crawlspace replacing the existing one that was in bad shape. Used 5,000 psi concrete, vibrated it like crazy where there is no honey combing at all, and most of the rebar was placed 3-4iinches away from the edge. But, a couple pieces like the pick shown where i placed some vertically ended up being 2in away. The ground looks wet b/c i watered it down as i backfilled and compacted. Never this wet otherwise.

Maybe i am over thinking it b/c the pier is not exposed to the weather and was well poured besides the concern i mentioned. House built in inland northern CA in 1950. Rains here more than other parts of CA but still dryer than places like FL.

Any thing wrong with option B for laundry drain p trap?

Remodeling this laundry room and noticed there was a leak in the drain so i am fixing it before i pit the drywall back up.

Wanted to go with option A where i can put a cleanout like there was a before but these fittings are slightly different size than the original that was here and the space is tight so im leaning toward option B.

House built in 1950 in northern CA has ABS sewer lines (not original to the house obviously).
