Gallopoli?
Hi! I hope I found an appropriate sub to post this in.
During the Vietnam war era, my grandpa was stationed in Naples Italy for a time. He was given a recipe by the 2 ladies who he rented from.
He called it "Gallopoli". It is ground beef, shredded cabbage and onion all cooked down then drained. I imagine he put in salt and pepper and garlic. Then he made a dough circle, a scoop of filling was put in and the dough folded over into a half moon shape. He pinched the edges and brushed it with egg.
They got baked in the oven til the dough was done.
They were sooooo yummy. Simple. Sometimes we used the dough and put in pizza ingredients instead of cabbage filling.
As I've gotten older I have been trying to find the real name. A friend of mine suggested Runza? Also reminds me of Pastys.
Can anyone help? An Italian style pasty?
