EQD Blumes or Plumes for bass

I’m looking for a bass overdrive. I’ve heard EDQ Plumes does pretty well on bass, but I also know that the Blumes is geared more toward bass. I play guitar more than bass so having a pedal that’s also suited for guitar (Plumes) is appealing. But in this case, I want to get what is best for bass.

Has anyone here tried either or both on bass?

Boost Pedal with PCB from Drunk Beaver

Business Card Boost PCB from Drunk Beaver, my first build. I only ruined one other enclosure and soldered the diode in reverse, but other than that, it works!

The Drunk Beaver instructions from their website were very thorough and easy to follow. I got all the parts I needed from Amazon and Amplified Parts.

I was skeptical about ordering the JST pin connectors but they were actually really helpful when I had to disconnect the PCB in order to fix the diode.

There’s a section to add diodes for clipping. I haven’t tried them yet but I probably will in the morning.

If you order a pedal from Drunk Beaver (recommended) they include one of these PCBs with your order. (You can also ask them to include a daughter board for the footswitch.)

Anyway, I had a great time building this and I’m looking forward to my next build. I’ll probably try something like a Bazz Fuss next.

Pan pizza R&D

Earlier this week I came across a listing for a bunch of Pizza Hut pizza pans. While it’s not always very well executed, I enjoy Pizza Hut’s pan pizza, so I bought the pizza pans, thinking it would be fun to do a pan pizza pop-up at my pizzeria.

Our pizzeria is a wood fired pizza joint, so we’re not very well equipped for this style of pizza but I managed to bake off a few pretty good pan pizzas in our convection oven this afternoon.

The dough is 50% bread flour, 25% AP, 15% semolina, and 10% whole wheat flour. All flours except the semolina are from a local mill, Hayden Flour Mills. I added a bit of olive oil and sugar to the dough, neither of which is in our wood fired pizza dough.

I par baked the dough in the convection oven, just long enough for the dough to set. Then topped it, then back in the oven. I need to add more oil or butter to the pan next time because they didn’t turn out as crispy and greasy as I would like for a pan pizza. Either way, it was a lot of fun and I look forward to making more!

Am I understanding my multimeter correctly?

I’ve been wanting to get into building pedals for a while but I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed. In order to go easy on myself, I decided to make a two-button footswitch with on/off LEDs for my Supro Delta King 12 amp.

I’m trying to measure the voltage for the footswitch output so I can use the correct components. I’m taking measurements on a TRS cable coming out of the footswitch output. The TRS cable will attach plug in to the footswitch that I’m building.

Using my multimeter, I made the following measurements:

Black probe on tip, red probe on ring: 1.2 v
Black probe on tip, red probe on sleeve: 15 v
Black probe on ring, red probe on sleeve: 13.7 v

Am I understanding that correctly? Granted, I know very little about electronics, but that seems like a big disparity between the different multimeter readings.

Drive pedals causing phase issues?

I know this is a sub for guitar pedals, but my problem applies to how I’ve been using with bass guitar. Hope that’s ok. After, a bass guitar is a guitar.

First of all, please excuse my untidy cable management.

Anyway, I recently picked up a bass guitar that I’ve been excited about for years, a Peavey T-40. The issue: it sounds like shit when I play it through drive/fuzz pedals. The only way I know how to describe it is that it sounds like it might be going in and out of phase.

Depending on the pedal, there might be almost a slight vibrato effect happening (much like when I use a phaser pedal with subtle settings). Other times, it sounds like some of EQ settings drop in and out. I understand that the pedals I’ve been using aren’t designed for bass so there can be a loss of low end, but that’s not what’s happening here.

Some pedals I’ve tried: Way Huge Red Llama, Drunk Beaver Seattle Driver, Walrus Iron Horse, and EHX Op Amp Big Muff (the latter two I played through my Tri Parallel Mixer to preserve the low end). To some extent, the issue exists with all the pedals I’ve tried.

Does anyone know why this is happening? The bass sounds fantastic otherwise. It’s only using drive/fuzz pedals where this happens.

What’s your guitar pedal hot take?

Mine is: a good overdrive pedal doesn’t need more than two knobs.

Ok, I don’t actually believe that but my favorites lately all have two knobs: DOD 250, Red Llama, and the Lasso section of OBNE’s Pardner.

Anyway, I picked up this Red Llama last week and I’ve been loving it.

What’s everyone’s favorite low-wattage amp?

I have two amps that I love, a Fender Deluxe Reverb and a Supro Delta King 12. I play mostly at home along with a monthly jam session with friends. Most of the time I’m the only guitarist and we do semi-psychedelic/jam-band covers of folk/classic rock/90s alternative. Volume-wise, the Delta King 12 has been perfect for both home and jamming with friends.

I want to create a stereo rig. As much as I love the Deluxe Reverb, it’s just way too loud. I’ve thought about just getting a second Delta King but I think it’d be fun to go with something else.

What’s everyone’s favorite low-wattage amp? Let’s say 10-15 watts. Tube amp is preferred but not required. Budget is up to $700.

The Cvlt sees it first.

About 20 years ago, I played an out of town show with my band. As we were setting up, I broke a string on my bass. I didn’t have any extra strings, but one of the other bass players was kind enough to let me borrow his. It was a Peavey T-40. I loved it and I’ve wanted one ever since.

After some mishaps with FedEx, my T-40 finally arrived yesterday. I was out of town till today so I didn’t get to play it today. I love it. It needs a set up so I’ll be dropping it off at a music shop tomorrow.

What’s everyone’s favorite vibrato pedal?

Budget is $150, new or used. Not looking for Uni-vibe, just up and down pitch modulation. I’m cool if it does more than one thing, like chorus or flanger.

Edit: I don’t mind knowing about the stuff that’s over my budget too.
