I made a tiny pet that wanders around my phone while I use other apps 🥹

The app is called Adory, and you can name your little companion anything you like. You can pet them, feed them, play together, and watch them explore your screen throughout the day..

How to promote my interactive virtual kitten app?

Hi everyone! I’m working on an Android app called Adory, which adds an interactive virtual kitten to the phone screen.

I made this short promotional video showing how she plays ball, gets hungry, eats, and demands plenty of attention. I’d really appreciate honest feedback before I publish more videos like it.

In particular:

- Does the opening hook make you want to keep watching?

- Is the voiceover clear and natural?

- Does the video explain the app well enough?

- Is the pacing too fast, too slow, or about right?

- Does the reverse psychology joke work?

- What would make the video more engaging?

I’m the developer, so constructive criticism is genuinely welcome. Thanks for taking a look!

I built an Android app that puts an interactive pet on your screen 🐱

Hey r/SideProject!

I recently launched Adory, an Android app that gives you a tiny virtual pet that lives directly on your screen while you use other apps.

You can pet it, feed it, play with it, resize it, and watch it wander around your phone.

Here’s a short video showing it in action:

This started as a fun side project, but turning the idea into a polished app and figuring out how to reach users has been a much bigger journey than I expected.

I would love your honest feedback on whether the concept immediately makes sense, what would make you want to keep using it, which pets or features I should add next, and how you would promote an app like this.

Thanks for checking it out! I’m happy to answer questions about how I built it or share what I’ve learned from launching it.

I built an Android screen pet app—how would you promote something like this?

Hey everyone, I recently launched Adory, an Android app that puts an interactive virtual pet directly on your screen. The pet walks around while you use your phone, and you can pet it, feed it, play with it, and change its size. Here’s a short video showing how it works: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/oBTnTHfa_V4
Building the app was the part I understood. Getting it in front of the right people has been much harder. So far, I’m considering short-form videos on TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels, along with posts in relevant communities. However, I don’t want to repeatedly post the same promotional content or come across as spammy. I’d really appreciate advice from people who have marketed a consumer mobile app:

  • Which channels would you prioritize for an app like this?
  • What kinds of videos or posts would you test?
  • Would you focus on organic content, small creators, paid ads, ASO, or something else?
  • How would you find the first group of genuinely engaged users?
  • Are there any mistakes you think I should avoid?

I’m happy to share what I’ve tried (so far a couple of videos on TikTok and YouTube) and any results as I go. Honest feedback on the app, video, or positioning is very welcome. Thanks!
