Recruiters of Germany, do companies check if a person has had their disability levels checked or a level assigned to them when you receive their application? Or does this get flagged automatically through the person's data at the Agentur für Arbeit? I am talking about the stage before interviewing, so just when you are in the process of short-listing based on application documentation alone. I would assume not due to Datenschutz and anti-discrimination laws, but not sure how it works. Help me understand, thanks!

ich hatte neulich nach langer Zeit was online bestellt. DHL sagt, dass mein Packet gestern schon zugestellt wurde. Ich war die ganze Zeit Zuhause und habe nichts erhalten. Die Nachbarn auch nicht. Nun habe ich weder mein Geld, das ich für die Bestellung ausgegeben habe, noch mein Paket. Habe DHL Kundenservice schon kontaktiert und die "untersuchen" es gerade. Habe den Laden auch informiert. Was sonst kann ich machen? Oder erstmal nur abwarten? Wie lange soll ich geduldig warten bzw. ab wann soll ich das ggf. eskalieren und wie?

Update: DHL dude ist heute vorbeigekommen. Laut ihn hat er das Paket an dem Tag geliefert aber im Treppenhaus. D.h. nicht persönlich bei mir, einfach im Treppenhaus gelassen. Ich habe nichts erhalten, keiner hat das Paket im Treppenhaus gesehen. Vermutlich hat jemand das geklaut...? Ansonst verstehe ich nicht wie das einfach verschwinden kann.. To be continued..

Bit of a beginner here. I couldnt save or invest a whole lot in my initial earning years as I was supporting my younger sibling with their studies. Now in my early thirties, is it too late to start for FIRE? If not, how do I go about this. Completely lost and looking for general guidance. Based in Germany, if that helps.

P.S. Added Info - I already live quite frugally with no extravagant expenses. Since I have been supporting my sibling, being concious of my finances has always been present :). As such, looking for investment guidance and not "save more" kind of guidance 😅.

Edit: Since numbers are relevant, here are some more details -

So I dont earn a lot, let's say something between 50-60k (before taxes, taxes are ca. 42% all together including social contributions) p.a. and I live in a big city. So far, I have managed to save around 5-10% per year (started with 45k p.a.), after all expenses, donations (tiny amount), and the share that goes towards my sibling's expenses. Important to know - the money spent on my sibling's studies is a donation, not a debt that I will recover from them later in life or so 😅.

I always hold 1-1.5 years' worth of liquidity/buffer since I am supporting 2 adults (myself and my sibling). The rest is accumulating regular interests from banks (avg. 2-3%), which is better than nothing I guess.

I have some tiny amount in ETFs and blue-chip stocks, but I would say this is very small.

I know this is nothing, but it took my a long time to build a base and buffer, and then to put even tiny amounts in ETFs and such 🫠.

Edit: Been earning effectively for about 4.5 years or so.

Any adoptive parents here who have adopted from India after moving to Germany? What is the process like and how long did you have to wait?

Dear new NRIs, when you move to a new country, please be mindful of your new home, even if your move is only temporary. Observe the social rules and be respectful. Because people will ask for examples, here is one very common one (applicable in some countries, not all ofc) - if you feel the urgent need to make a phone call back home to show signs of life, on video, in public, pls just use technology -> earphones/headphones are available everywhere and not rocket science anymore. Step out if you are in a restaurant/closed public space and take your call or just regulate your volume. Manage yourself and stop giving us all a bad name ("civic sense" is not limited to not littering), thank you :).

I made an appreciation post a few weeks ago after having visited Finland as a tourist for the very first time. The kindness and calmness of the people has really stuck with me and I have been introspecting and thinking about a lot of things since then 😅.

I am curious - how does the Finnish society perceive disabilities (visible or not)? Is the society more accepting and supportive or is it more like hush hush/not talked about because of taboo (would be unexpected😅). Where I currently live, both systems (welfare, accessibility, etc) as well as social acceptance and inclusion of disabled people is unfortunately quite low. How is it in Finland?

We visited Finland for the very first time over a long weekend and it pretty much healed something in us. The air so clean, the water so pure (best I have ever had!), the nature so beautiful, the people so kind!! We were visting a friend who moved there 2 years ago from Germany. Finally understood what she meant when she said Finland healed her nerves, lol. Only noticed how anxious Germany has made us once we reached Finland and accidentally stepped on the bike lane, panicked, jumped out and were surprised (and relieved) that nobody screamed their lungs out at us 🥲.

We only stayed in Helsinki and around this time. But we will come back next summer and explore some hiking routes and more nature 😍!
