[TX] Can old employer badmouth or pose a risk to future employer?

Today was my final day with my employer, and the VP took me out to lunch. During the conversation, he asked where I’ll be working next, and I regrettably shared the company name. My official start date with the new company is next week.

Now I’m wondering: can a former employer realistically pose any risk to your future job after you’ve already accepted the offer and completed onboarding/background checks?

For context, I never caused problems, sabotaged work, or acted unprofessionally. I did my job and worked hard, but culturally I never felt like I fit in well there. Honestly, I also got the sense the VP never really liked me from the beginning, though I never understood why.

The lunch itself was awkward. He said he saw a lot of potential in me, but also mentioned things like, “I could tell from the start that you didn’t really fit here.” I also found out I was officially backfilled today, which makes me think I may have eventually been let go anyway if I hadn’t resigned.

After I told him the company name, he said something along the lines of:
“I appreciate you trusting me. Don’t worry, we aren’t petty like that.”

I'm 26 with a background in mechanical engineering if that makes any difference. Am I overthinking this, or should I be worried that he might reach out to my new employer? What are the actual risks here?

Would you be honest with your manager about wanting to completely change career paths? In this case, from engineering to project management.

I'm currently a mechanical engineer about to leave for another company for better pay in a different industry with different products. I have been applying for jobs ever since I found out our fresh college graduate entry level engineers make the same as I do; whereas I have been in industry for 4 years (albiet 2.5 yrs at another company with different products but still somewhat related).

I don't know if my lack of motivation is because of pay disparity or growing lack of enthusiasm with engineering.

If I still come to find I don't enjoy my work with this new company, is it wise to mention a full career path change after I build some rapport with the manager and company? I'm afraid they may search for replacements and lay me off if they discover that my heart's not in it. Is this a pessimistic view? Does it depend on the manager and YMMV?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hello, I'm 26, M, currently living alone in the Spring Branch area. I got a new job in Katy and am considering moving there or at least somewhere in between Spring Branch and Katy.

I really like Spring Branch because it feels centralized. I'm close to hospitals, downtown, and grocery stores.

Does anyone have any apartment or location recommendations? I would like something similar. I don't care whether it's luxury or not, but would like a responsive maintenace and office team as that is something lacking at my apartment complex. I don't care for amenities besides for having on-site laundry/dryer. Also obviously searching for a safe neighborhood too.

Appreciate any information you can share!

I vaped THC on both Saturday and Sunday, and yesterday (Tuesday), I tested negative using Easy@Home test kits off Amazon. I'm skeptical. I will be testing the next consecutive days, but is there any chance these tests could be faulty? Should I get another brand or is the liklihood of them malfunctioning very low?

I'm 5'1", 108 lbs, about 10% body fat, lift 6x/week, healthy diet, male. I'm not a regular user, but I would say I vape during the weekends every other week or so. Maybe less often even.

Hello, first time user here. Can I do a practice run with Quick Fix? As in can I microwave it and practice getting the temperature right a few days before the test? Or is each pack one and done?

Hello, how should the bottle be transported to the lab? I live in Houston, TX so it is very hot and humid. I will be following the heating instructions via microwave and tying the heat pack to the bottle with a rubber band, but does it matter how it's transported while I'm driving? I was planning on sneaking it into the lab inside the hidden compartment of my underwear (between the legs basically). Should I just put the bottle down there immediately after microwaving? Or before I head inside the lab? How temperature sensative is this?

I vaped weed this past Saturday and Sunday. I'd say I'm an infrequent user, usually every other weekend or so. I'm 26, 5'1", male, 108 lb, around 10% body fat, lift 6x a week, eat a healthy diet, and drink lots of water.

I just received an offer letter today (Monday) but no drug test was initiated yet. I'm trying to delay signing as long as I can. By the time I sign, I would guess that the urine drug test will occur either end of this week or some time next week.

Anyone know what the odds of passing are? I bought some THC test strips off Amazon and I'm also considering quick fix or get urine from a friend on the way to the test.
