Shoutout to Felfel and other Good Samaritans feeding BedStuy ♥️
So, as someone currently struggling to feed myself, at the mercy of paychecks from consultants who don’t want to pay you, the community fridge outside of Botani on Lewis have been a godsend. SNAP runs out, food pantries are a coin toss, but there are always amazing samaritans in the community, making sure these fridges are stocked. I’ve only ever dropped off canned goods that I don’t want, or grains that I won’t eat, but Felfel in particular, I noticed, provides balanced meals that will actually feed the community. (Couldn’t pay my internet before Verizon shut it off, so I spent a few hours working at Botani, and was so grateful to be able to grab their beef/ pork lasagna with a salad as a lunch to heat at home!)
It’s not just Felfel, I went back to Botani close to 11pm to try to pay my Verizon bill again, and this wonderful woman jumped out of a car and stocked the area with mostly non-perishables, keeping in mind of the heatwave. She even left a bunch of s’mores ingredients in time for Fourth of July! Passersby in the neighborhood were so happy that she did that and that they got to talk to her, and hear that she would be right back there tomorrow. I personally hate sweets, but to even have someone contribute to a community in that way during the holiday season actually made me cry from joy. I didn’t talk to her because I would’ve started crying, but it was such an incredible thing to see. I’ll just say now, to the adorable, short, white lady in the bandanna with those fresh direct bags… Thank you for letting me witness such a beautiful thing, while I simply try to pay my bills. Thank you for being a star in this community.
(Also the person who provided all the smoked trout and smoked salmon during the day, I’m glad I stopped by before the hoarders (who I won’t judge), for such a pricey treat filled with omega-3s! 😬)
And quite frankly, anyone that does contribute. Whether it’s a bunch of zucchinis, or premade meals, or Staples to enjoy the holiday weekend, thank you so much for thinking about those in the community that are struggling. ♥️
Happy fourth, everyone!
