I filmed a movie 10 Years ago, and It releases in 57 theaters tonight.

JOURNEY follows Roberto, a man born in Mexico and raised in the United States who is deported and must make his way across Mexico to return to his girlfriend before the birth of their child.

Why it took so long.

I wrote this film about 13 years ago, with my brother and the director of the film. I am the cinematographer and executive producer. In other words, this film is 100% independent. We filmed this over 10 yrs ago. And no, it wasn't just sitting around.

From creating our first Kickstarter/Indiegogo Campaigns,
to raising the funds to film the movie in 7 months
to writing hot checks to the police chief in Laredo, TX (oh it was filmed in Laredo),
to having to stop production because we ran out of funds.
Raising Funds again,
to filming in Mexico(Monterrey) because we couldn't bring our actors to the states,
to having the local mexican goverment confiscate our equipment,
to many more stories.

We didn't expect to be in theaters, even though that was the goal from the beginning. I want to encourage filmmakers out there, it's possible! Hope you can watch it if it's in a theater near you. Oh, we are still indie, and we don't have studio backing, and still retain ownership of our film. (another crazy story). Ask away i'll be around into showtime!

Releasing a film I made over 10 Yrs ago on RED DRAGON 6K

Journey Releases in Oct 2nd.

I'm a commercial cinematographer based in Houston, Texas. I have been using the Red Camera System since RED ONE M. It was amazing using it on projects for over 10+ yrs. Here are some stills from our film that I shot over 10 yrs ago, and it is releasing this week in 32 Theaters across the nation. Would love for you to check out the film! Here are som stills!

We filmed this in 5K with the Red Dragon 6K CF, and with the Arri Ziess Standard Primes T2.1 set. I chose that set because I wanted people to feel like that had seen the movie before, (same lens set that was used on FARGO). The colorist is Dan Diaz of Suite Bread. Let me know if you have any questions.

My Indie Film got Distribution! Need your help!

Hey everyone,

I’m one of the filmmakers behind an independent film called JOURNEY, and after years of working on this movie, we’re releasing it in theaters on October 2.

The film follows Roberto, a man who was raised in the U.S. but born in Mexico. After being deported, he has to make his way across Mexico and try to get back home to his pregnant partner before the birth of their child.

At its core, it’s a story about family, identity, immigration, and what it means to call somewhere home.

We’re genuinely independent, no major studio behind the film or huge marketing campaign. We started with a small number of theaters, and our theatrical partners have continued adding locations. We’re now at 32 theaters across 8 states.

If you’re near one of these cities, we’d love for you to check it out. And if you know someone nearby, sharing this with them would mean a lot.

OCTOBER 2 LOCATIONS

AL: Birmingham

AZ: Avondale • Chandler • Phoenix • Tucson

CA: Bakersfield • Chino • Delano • Moreno Valley • Pittsburg • Santa Barbara

CO: Denver • Loveland

FL: Miami • Orlando

NV: Las Vegas

OK: Oklahoma City

TX: Bryan • El Paso • Fort Worth • Grand Prairie • Houston • Laredo • Lubbock • San Antonio • Texas City

Some cities have multiple theaters, so the complete theater list and showtimes are here:

www.journeythemovie.com/showtimes

And if we’re not playing near you, there’s an option on the site to request JOURNEY at a theater in your area.

Opening weekend is extremely important for a small independent release like ours. If audiences show up, it gives us a better opportunity to keep the film playing and potentially expand into more markets.

Thanks for checking us out and if you know somebody in one of these cities who might connect with the film, please share it with them.
